Has it been announced who’s DFAd from the 40-man? By my count they need to DFA Ali Sanchez plus 2 more. My guess is Palacios and a mild surprise in Jackson Wolf. Could be Smith-Njigbs again too though.
I don't think it'll be Palacios. I'm guessing with guys like Rider and Stratton, Selby and Nicolas could go. At what point does a guy like Nick G start to get anxious? I see no path whatsoever with him on this team or future teams.
I'm not ready to make too much out of an online article in a Jersey publication at least when all I can see is the first couple of paragraphs. Were you able to read the whole article? This is an attention grabbing headline and clearly it wants you to pay them to read the rest. I learned not to take that bait a long time ago.
The first paragraph talks about his attitude on his second day of a 30 day rehab. I'd like to know what it was on his last day and most importantly now. The whole notion of rehab is education and acceptance and it's the norm for those first entering to continue to deny having a problem. Overcoming that is probably the primary initial goal of any rehab program.
I don't trust BC any further than I can throw PNC Park, but I have a difficult time believing even he would be foolish enough to sign any player who still demonstrates a total lack of self-awareness as this article would have you believe. Judging German especially based on a partial online article from an unknown "journalist" (and I use that term very loosely) is not something I'm prepared to do. He deserves a chance to prove he's not that guy any more and if he's still drinking it won't take long for that to come to the surface.
Okay I was able to find another reference to that interview on a website no one talks about anymore, and I can see where people are concerned. If he currently continues to drink and deny having a problem, it’s just a matter of time, and probably a short time, before he implodes again. Alcoholism is an insidious disease that unfortunately this culture tends to ignore and blame the victim for being weak instead of ill. It’s also true that only he can deal with it. I still hope he is able to do that, but reading this article certainly raises a lot of red flags.
Yeah. It let me read the entire thing. Just wanted to post it since I read different opinions leading up to his signing. Just posted the article because it came up on what I think the kids call a "thread" when I opened my flip phone. I stopped caring about the personal lives of celebrities and the like a long time ago. At least a month. I've posted before there are plenty of worse people that get many more chances than this dude. I am pulling for Domingo.
For the record I couldn't care less how much he drinks. I like to drink. Just Busch Ice and a Fosters on payday because I am on a budget.
Sounds like he was released because he wouldn't finish his alcohol rehab treatment. The fact the Yankees even would make a player do this has Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth rolling over in their graves.
Made me think Marion Robert Morrison and the alleged amount of impacted fecal matter in his digestive tract. Not sure why or if that needed to be typed.
I was all for him but article seemed like a lot of former teammates trying to walk the line to say he didn't learn. Hey at least Ben did his due diligence. Billy Mac said they didn't even ask him what he thought their time together
It certainly looks that way...especially with Cherington saying Luis is a *bulk guy*
Interesting projections with the rotation over at graphs...Man are they low on Skenes K's. everything else looks about right, other than Lauer, who I think will pitch more and produce more wins than projected.
I don’t mind seeing Ortiz in the pen. In theory, if his velocity is up and and needs to rely on two pitches to get him through an inning or two, he should be able to succeed in that role. On the flip side, I’m not thrilled to see Falter. Hopefully he is just here for a couple weeks.
While much less intriguing than the MLB roster decisions, there certainly seems to be way too many bodies for AAA and AA particularly those employed to pitch.
A bunch of guys are on the 60-day IL now. I believe it was seven pitchers total. The organization MILB roster limit was dropped to 165 in the US this year, so there is less room to keep extra players, but you could still keep pitchers at Pirate City if there is a jam. Pitchers seem to be getting more fragile each year, so they will need all of the pitching that they can get
Well.. to kind of repeat my response to Mel... a lot of bodies, I am not sure outside of some in our rotations if there is much to get excited about. My comment was more there just aren't enough roster spots for the bodies.
A good point. The Pirates have set themselves to be able to wheel and deal before the beginning of the season. The Pirates are loaded with MLB-quality Relievers, and there are teams who are loaded with position players we could use right now - maybe not to start at the MLB level now, but possibly later this year.
Needs - My primary "get" right now would be a young, power hitting, Center Fielder who would be a solid add to start at AAA and be ready for MLB by Jul/Aug. First Base is another area of concern, but a young CF is essential if this team wants to compete now and in the future.
I'll disagree some. I said they have a lot of bodies, but outside of our 'big' names in the AAA and AA rotation and maybe a few others I think there is minimal trade value. I think their decisions may be more who gets cut not what significant value can we add to the system.
Mayo posting that Skenes is throwing a splinker on the backfields?

Is that his version of a changeup or?
looks to be a separate pitch.
Luis look like he been in that bulk role all winter.
Best shape of his life?
Has a sort of Johnny Cueto thing going right?
Trying to achieve Hoss status

Can it still be Falter and Williams? I kid, and then cry.
That is EXACTLY what I would do.
But Selby and, CSN seem the most oblivious to me.
Yeah I agree I think CSN and Selby
Obviously I meant obvious.
I am always oblivious to the obvious!
I don't think it'll be Palacios. I'm guessing with guys like Rider and Stratton, Selby and Nicolas could go. At what point does a guy like Nick G start to get anxious? I see no path whatsoever with him on this team or future teams.
No path? Injuries happen all the time.
It’s going to be Ali, CSN, and Selby. Book it.
They'll probably wait until Thursday to make any official moves.
When will we know what the minor league rosters are shaping up to be?
Indy has to be by Friday. The others start a week later so I'd guess mid- next week.
Love seeing JJ make the team. Looking forward to seeing how Skenes and Chandler progress.
Don’t forget Solometo!!

Randomly popped up on my phone. Let me read it but then wanted me to subscribe when I went back.

Mickey Mantle died at the age 63 from of cirrhosis of the liver one of the multiple deadly outcomes of alcoholism.
we used to be a REAL country.
Made me think Marion Robert Morrison and the alleged amount of impacted fecal matter in his digestive tract. Not sure why or if that needed to be typed.
He went to rehab to collect 800k. Fortunately he only had 30 min counseling since he was famous. Other schlubs had to do and hour or two.
Imagine riding on a bus from my to Detroit hungover as hell with the Bambino.
Lets get him out of the org yesterday
I was all for him but article seemed like a lot of former teammates trying to walk the line to say he didn't learn. Hey at least Ben did his due diligence. Billy Mac said they didn't even ask him what he thought their time together
So am I to infer Falter and Ortiz will be piggybacking until Lauer or Priester or Skenes is deemed ready?
Wouldn’t exactly be my plan A, but I can’t say I’m surprised.
That was my guess when I heard Falter made the roster.
It certainly looks that way...especially with Cherington saying Luis is a *bulk guy*

When do we get some bulk brains?
Thursday in Miami

Too much pitching? Is that like being too rich or too beautiful?
Well.. to kind of repeat my response to Mel... a lot of bodies, I am not sure outside of some in our rotations if there is much to get excited about. My comment was more there just aren't enough roster spots for the bodies.

A lot of failed starters in that bullpen; I’d prefer they experiment with that in AAA rather than at the big league level.
