By all accounts he has dropped his launch angle approach and gone back to where he was in high school: just hit the ball. He himself has acknowledged this.
You can’t go nuts over AFL stats, but independent analysts like Keith Law have praised the return of the “real” Siani.
No way he starts the season in the majors, though. Let’s see how he does in AAA and take it from there. But this is encouraging.
By all podcasts I’ve listened to (BA and BP), the pitching is pretty bad there this year. It usually is, I think-or maybe it’s the combo of bad pitching and a friendly hitting environment.
I’d think the only way decent arms get to the AFL is if they missed time during the season, but are healthy at the end. And even then, they may not go.
Sorry im a little later to the party, but latest BoD podcast has convinced me that max kepler and paul sewald are two guys were should definitely be considering this offseason. The combination of sound logic, devilishly handsome appearances, and soothing baritone voices of the hosts just really made that make sense to me
Great season for Paul Skenes and well deserved recognition. He will not finish lower than 2nd in the Baseball Writers ROY on Nov 18, meaning that he will be awarded a full year of MLB Service. Innings pitched by the 5 Pirate SP's at year end - Keller 178 IP, Falter 142 IP, Ortiz 136 IP, Skenes 133 IP, Jones 122 IP. He earned his year, and was worth a pot of gold more to the Pirates in the PR Ratings every time he or his LSU Senior Gymnast Girlfriend, Livvy Dunne, hit the papers, mags, or TV!
If they could only find a hitter or two instead of wasting money on duds - buying low and hoping for miracles! Get smarter Pirates - these next 2 or 3 years are when the Pirates become one of the more popular teams in MLB, or stay in the also-ran category because they are too cheap to take full advantage of this talent.
The Pirates are crying about a lack of LH hitters to take advantage of the friendly RF and RC power alleys, and this kid seems to have found something this Fall. As he stated a few days ago he is working on reducing the number of strikeouts and putting the ball in play. Hopefully the Pirates get him 30+ AB's with the MLB Group at ST, before heading to the AAA Team.
Could he hit well in ST and make the 26? I think Reynolds, Cruz, and Cook could be my starters out of ST, and another LH bat - Suwinski or Siani as the UT OF? Ben threw roadblocks at the prospects by adding IKF and BDLC in a "too late and way too little" attempt to pull off a miracle finish of 2024.
Now we have to unload them (or I would think we should) along with 2 or 3 MI's, and a few pitchers. Guys like Harrington and Ashcraft could elevate the quality of the return greatly. Let the FA's get signed for way too much, and then wait for the 6 or 7 teams out there who will not overspend, but will definitely trade talent - the Orioles have accumulated and developed hitting talent and are offensively heavy and pitching lite.
Planchart, Siani and Diamond were named to the AFL Fall Stars game tomorrow night. MLB network will air it.
There's also an HR Derby scheduled for tonight, but doesn't look like it's on TV.

Slamming Sammy
Is the pitching really this bad in the AFL, or is this a breakout?
I noticed he drastically cut down his k rate and faired decent in his first taste of AA.
What are the chances he can be an above average heavy side platoon?

Wait’ll you see the award for Best Analytical Process in a Losing Effort.

Could Sammy be this year's rookie of the year?
In a word…NFW.! Wait, is that three words? I guess it depends on the speed in which NFW is said.

He has less than 100 games above A ball. I'd like to see him start the season in AAA and let him earn a promotion to the show.
He might be earning it now'
I'm not sure the AFL is a springboard to the majors. I think we need to see what he does vs AAA arms.
No one would love that more than Nola

Hear ye, hear ye!!!
