Morning Rundown: Phillies win on walk-off hit, Padres roll to even series
Nick Castellanos wins it for the home team.
It was just the National League teams in action on Sunday, with the Phillies and xxx winning on the day.
Nick Castellanos hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to tie the best-of-five series at one game a piece.
Mark Vientos and Pete Alonso hit home runs early to give the Mets a 3-0 lead, but the Phillies answered with deep shots from Bryce Harper and Castellanos to tie it.
Brandon Nimmo hit a solo shot to give them a brief lead. Bryson Stott hit a two-run triple to shift the lead back to the Phillies in the eighth inning.
The Phillies bullpen couldn’t hold another lead, as Vientos hit his second home run of the night, which tied the game at six.
That paved the way for Castellanos to win on a walk-off hit that scored Trea Turner.
After jumping ahead early in game one, the Padres surrendered the lead and lost to the Dodgers.
They made sure it didn’t happen a second night in a row. The Padres offense poured it on, scoring 10 on six home runs on the night.
Rookie Jackson Merrill picked up three hits while driving in three, including a home run. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit another two home runs.
With the National League teams taking center stage on Sunday, it will be the AL taking their turn on Monday. The two games will rundown like this:
Detroit Tigers vs Cleveland Guardians, 4:08 pm ET
Kansas City Royals vs New York Yankees, 7:38 pm ET
The Arizona Fall League begins on Monday, with just one game tonight between the Surprise Saguaros and Messa Solar Sox. Later today, I’ll have some players to watch (non-Pirates).
Mike Burrows was originally scheduled to pitch, but he was replaced by Valentin Linarez. Burrows returned from Tommy John surgery this year and made his major league debut at the end of the season, also getting his first win.
After getting beat up in Double-A to start the year, Linarez was sent back to Greensboro, where he had better results.
I updated The AFL preview after the rosters were announced to include more information on Valentin Linarez.

Bummer about Burrows.
NL is a real toss up but it would be a hell of an upset for Yanks not to walk into the World Series.
Really absurd stuff watching them have to pause the game because LA fans were throwing stuff at Padres players, if any of those fans were caught they should be banned for life
