Morning Rundown: Pirates avoid sweep, win in extra innings
Pirates win in extra innings to avoid sweep, Curve pick up first win of the season.
The Pittsburgh Pirates avoided getting swept by the New York Yankees, winning 5-4 in extra innings. They carried a lead into the ninth, but the Yankees rallied back to tie things up with three runs.
Tommy Pham went 1-4 with two runners batted in, including the walk-off base hit in the bottom of the 11th inning. Bryan Reynolds hit a two-run double in the third inning, giving Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead. Isiah Kiner-Falefa doubled home Adam Frazier to make things 4-1.
Andrew Heaney, who was making his home debut, was fantastic against one of the best lineups in all of baseball. He struck out 10 while allowing just one run in seven innings pitched.
The Pirates continue their home stand against the St. Louis Cardinals. Carmen Mlodzinski, Paul Skenes, and Mitch Keller are the expected starters for the home team.
Game one is scheduled to start at 6:40 pm ET.
Behind five shutout innings from Anthony Solometo, the Altoona Curve picked up their first win of the season. Sammy Siani represented all of the offense for the Curve, hitting a two-run home run.
The Greensboro Grasshoppers couldn’t complete the sweep, but the offense was still firing on all cylinders, scoring double-digit runs for the third time this weekend. Esmerlyn Valdez and Maikol Escotto picked up three hits. Valdez hit his first home run of the season and Escotto stole four bases.

A further thought on the Priester trade. I think the Brewers may have also paid a premium given the Sox scrapped his FF, showcasing further how effective his sinker was, which could be very useful in Milwaukee
