why'd they take Falter out of the game so early today?

FCL Pirates gotta be frustrated. Their own pitchers gave up one run over 8.2 IP and stranded 5 of 5 inherited runners. Two rehabbing pitchers gave up seven while recording one out, and they lost 8-5.

Add Heaney in the trade if someone needs a lefty. Forgot about him.Frazier, Pham,Heaney, Hayes won’t bring back much at all. If a playoff team loses their third baseman

next couple week, Haynes might become more valuable for a trade piece.

I hope they get Rafael Flores from the yankees for Hayes

Our needs we should be looking for at the trade deadline. Outfielder, third baseman, shortstop,

And a reliever or 2 . Our trade candidates are Keller, Hayes, IKF, Bedner , Frazier, Pham, and one of our AAAstarting pitchers.. all returning players must be cheap and have a good outlook for the next couple years. This is the only way we can turn it around and help our offense.

When I checked the score late last night and found that the Pirates had beaten one of the best teams in the NL 9-1, I felt like I had been upgraded from a middle seat in coach in the last row of the back of the plane to first class. So this is what it feels like to be actually good.

I’m sure reality will set back in today.

sources saying Keller, Reynolds and Santana to the Red Sox for Anthony, Mayer and Casas

I’m thinking Keller & Bednar to the cubs for Shaw & Caissie.

I don’t necessarily like the trade but I have a feeling it’s going to happen. I don’t mind Shaw but caissie reminds me too much of Benson.

It would be fitting of Cherington, Shaw is a right hand hitting 2nd basemen who's hit over power trying to play 3rd. Caissie is a corner outfielder who strikes out around 30% of the time in triple A.

Shaw hit 21 homers last season in 121 games. I wouldn’t call him hit over power. By all accounts, he can play 3b fine.

Iowa inflates homerun totals for right hand hitters and he is fine with the glove, but he has a below average arm.

Didn’t know Iowa of all places inflates home runs. wRC+ accounts for park factors and he had 136 in ‘24 and 149 this season. He also has a 60 grade for raw power. Doesn’t really sound like hit over power.

10 out of his 13 triple A homeruns were hit at home.

So another 2Bman... just what the Pirates need.

He’s played way more 3b than 2b.

I hope you're wrong on that one. Shaw doesn't seem likely to be a big league regular to me and Caissie is going to k way too much.

Shaw obliterated minor league pitching. I wouldn’t take too much stock in his first taste of the big leagues. All these top prospects struggle when they first get the call.

Maybe replace Horton with Caissie

You'd have to throw in Skenes to even out that one.

I’m in for a hit of whatever your sources are using. This would be a fleecing of epic proportion.

I thought the Red Sox did fine in that trade. I would rather have the Red Sox end of the deal than the Giants.

Depends if you’re trying to win now. Apparently Breslow isn’t a good GM and that front office is toxic. There’s many articles since the trade highlighting this.

All parties came out looking bad in that affair: the Red Sox front office, on-field management, and Devers. Gossip from disgruntled employees is fodder for website clickbait, but I'm always skeptical of such things. In the specific case of the Red Sox, they have a corporate ownership team now that owns the Penguins, part of the Pirates' network, the Liverpool futbol club, and invest in the PGA. Some of this employee angst may just be the result of having a corporate-style ownership that implements "policies." I know that if I worked for a "corporation," I would probably be disgruntled too... lol.

Boston has had a decades long problem knifing players and managers out the door.

As for the deal itself? It’s mediocre at best. Harrison is ok, but looking like a one pitch pitcher. Tibbs probably tops out as a platoon corner OF. All that for a top 15 bat in the game. Yes they got out of the money and Devers is a one dimensional player, but…it’s a shit trade for Boston.

I’m specifically talking about how breslow and the front office fubar’d the Devers situation. This isn’t gossip. The Red Sox fanbase is irate and rightfully so.

Great homecoming game for the Pirates against the Mets. Lots of blue shirts in attendance, and thankfully, the Pirates hitters supported Mitch Keller. If BC's phone is not ringing off the hook re Keller, I would be surprised - he could be the difference for some team in making the playoffs or hoping for next year. Getting a SP like Keller for about $6.4 mil remaining in 2025, and signed for 3 more affordable years? That's a steal.

The Pirates outlook for getting some interest in tradeable parts is picking up. IKF had a solid game yesterday and now has a slash of 277/321/349/670 OPS with a 977 fielding %age at SS. Both he and Frazier will appeal to contenders looking for utility help in the IF, and in the OF also for Frazier. The Yankees could be a solid possibility for IKF down the stretch. Volpe, Torres, and Chisholm have been pulling iron-man duty at SS, 2B, and 3B, and the Yankees could also be shopping for a RP/SP.

Tip of the cap to Manager Don Kelly for recognizing the turnaround that Tommy Pham has going. He's played 3 of the last 4 games where he is 5-12, 3RBI, and 1 BB. Putting him at leadoff yesterday was a nice attention-getting move. He also had 2 hits in the Misiorowski game in Milwaukee.
