Morning Rundown: Pirates blown out by the White Sox, Peguero recalled
Pirates drop first game out of All-Star break, Peguero called up
The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped their first game out of the All-Star break, getting blown out by the Chicago White Sox, 10-1.
They jumped out early with an Edgar Quero home run and then added two more in the first inning off Bailey Falter.
He allowed four runs on six hits and a walk over four innings pitched.
Showing how off the wall the game went, Braxton Ashcraft walked four batters in his one-plus innings of work. Oneil Cruz picked up a pair of hits, including driving in the only run of the game for the Pirates.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday, with Mike Burrows facing off against former Milwaukee Brewer Adrian Houser. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 pm ET.
After trading Adam Frazier to the Royals, the Pirates recalled Liover Peguero from Triple-A Indianapolis to take his place on the roster.
An infielder by trade, Peguero has been getting some playing time in the outfield this season to expand his versatility.
Peguero, 24, has hit .251/.312/.373 with five home runs, eight stolen bases, and a wRC+ of 82 this season for Indianapolis.
After getting off to a good start in July, Bubba Chandler took a step back on Friday, allowing five earned runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out four over 3.2 innings pitched.
The walks remained low, but he put himself in several full and three-ball counts, throwing over 80 pitches in his start.
This is coming off back-to-back starts where he tossed six shutout innings.

Shalin Polanco learning new mindset from failure
It’s hard to believe that Shalin Polanco is still just 21 years old, having his birthday in February. Signed as a 16-year-old, Polanco was given the second-largest international bonus from the Pirates in the franchise’s history at the time.
We have monthly and yearly plans available, with the latter costing an average of $4.16/month.

I had a very controlled crash out in a group chat yesterday because Reinold Navarro didn’t pitch at LECOM with the FCL team playing there. Wanted that extra data.
Turns out it was because he got promoted to Bradenton.
So we get the data anyways
Willits signed for 8.2, almost 3M below slot.
