Switaski looks like a decent off the radar lefty, throws hard, best control I've seen him have, needs better secondary pitches. Late round pick. From Waynesburg

Honeycutt with a leadoff first pitch homerun. Trying to push his way up in the draft. 4 homeruns in the tournament so far.

Braden Montgomery injured trying to score in the 1st. Ta&m v Oregon

It was a clean break, should make a full recovery. 2 to 3 months down, shouldn't hurt his draft status too much.

I don’t think selling the farm for these two is the best idea for a couple reasons:

Robert is hurt way too much- he is great when healthy but has only played 100+ games once in his career.

Crochet would be a good get but I wonder if he will be on an inning limit this year after being in the pen last year.

Both have too many questions to sell the farm for IMO

Totally reasonable, it's a go big deal to get it done. It's a big risk, potentially big reward.

McGinnis for Evansville crushed another homer. Not even on draft radars. Really reminds me of Brock Holt!

I really hope we take him, even if we luck into Kurtz. I really think his swing is perfect for PNC. I don't think it'd be a problem adding 2 power hitting lefties one can play 1st the other can dh lol.

Sounds good to me

I really wanted Ortiz to start today. But whatever. Have Mlodzinski go 2-3 innings. Wait for a lefty. Then go Bruihl for 1-2 innings. Wait for a righty. Go Ortiz until he’s out of gas.

I’d imagine Ortiz still goes 2/3 innings regardless when he comes in

Friday, June 7

30 down. 51 to go.

The Pirates win behind strong Mitching, 3-0 vs. the Twins. The Bucs are in last place in the Central, one-half game out of the wild card race and one-half game behind the second place Cubs, Cards and Reds.

CARROTS ON THE HOUSE!!!

@> ONE (1) carrot for The Bullpen* for doing what it is supposed to do. Accepting for the Bullpen tonight is the member with the fewest carrots on the leaderboard at this date…which is still HodorMan. (Hodor!)

*

@>@> Two (2) carrots for O’Cruz for his river blast.

*

@>@>@> Three (3) for Pitch Keller, who seems to be gathering steam with some increased velo last night. Dude is on a serious run.

wonder how many innings they will let him go? certainly an opportunity for Mlod

I think a lot of Hank's issues at the plate are in his head and about pitch selection or maybe I should say swing selection. He's an intense dude and imo, sometimes that can work against you in baseball. Some patients at the plate might get him into some better pitch counts. Just my thoughts.

The Pirates are going to need at least 10 runs to have a chance today. Mlod's control is always a concern along with Ortiz who hasn't pitched in seven days which doesn't help a guy with control issues. So you got Bruihl, Heller, Nickolas and Stratton left who didn't pitch yesterday.

The problem I see is inevitably Shelton will leave one of these guys in too long as he always does.

Expand full comment

Betcha we win today. Bullpen games are hard for the opponent to prepare for.

But don't forget that Shelton came over from Minnesota as Rocco Baldelli's bench coach in 2019 to become the Pirates manager in 2020. Spies everywhere, lol.

It is impolite to dance when one is right.

10 runs, huh?

Much love, brother. Bullpen games will do if there is no Baby Skenes, J Jones or Pitch Keller, I guess.

I would, of course, have noted aforethought that Rowdy Tellez would be the offensive hero, here, but I did not want to seem way too right.

Bucs had a winning record last year in bullpen games. Da Wabbit's theory of fungible starters is a true thing.

Expand full comment

Ben should've just traded for Crochet and Robert on Thursday lol

Expand full comment

My concern with crochet is that hes already at a career high for innings. Serious load management for him to pitch down the stretch

Expand full comment

True, he has worked out of the pen until this year. Could be another late inning guy if his innings need trimmed. I like him for the years of control and ace potential to add to an already very good rotation.

Expand full comment

Robert hit another HR last night. That's exactly the type of bat we need in this lineup. Lots of risk and probably an expensive prospect cost but just make it happen

Expand full comment

Crochet had another good start as well and the ChiSox won, which doesn't happen much this year.

Expand full comment

Bubba, suwinski, cheng and a lottery ticket for Crochet and Robert? Or is that still to light of a package

Expand full comment

Bubba is the only name that got their attention. IMO., WAY light for just Robert.

Expand full comment

To light, for both it would be at least 6 prospects or controllable mlb pieces plus a couple lottery tickets, basically double right now. It's overpay season but still might be worth it.

Ben C needs to be looking for some reinforcements for the Indy starting pitching staff. With promotions and injuries, they don't have much left. Dombkowski (who has been a reliever up to now) started last.night and threw 90 pitches. He has struggled since getting promoted from Altoona, but he still might rate as their second best starter. Nice to see for Dombko, who was an undrafted free agent, and is now one step away from the majors.
