RA has consistently outperformed his expected stats with 2023 being a complete outlier. I don’t see much upside to acquiring him, especially when considering his arb1 season is $8m. He is probably a “better” option than what we have on the current roster, but he is not worth the +$25m in arbitration salary you would need to pay him over the next two years, not even close.
A great day for the Pirate MiLB Affiliates - especially pitching - very strong.
Harrington, AA - 7 IP, 3H, 0ER, 2BB/6K; Borucki, AAA, 1 IP, 0H, 0BB/3K, 11P; Barco, A+ - 5 IP, 4H, 3 ER, 0BB/5K, 59 P; Shortridge, A (Rehab) 4 IP, 2H, 0 BB, 7 K; Mueth, FCL, 5 IP, 4H, 2BB/5K, 1 ER. It is possible that Chandler and Harrington could be available for late season efforts for the Pirates if the circumstances require as much. Not forgetting Priester who had an excellent outing earlier in the week, or Ortiz! Perez, Gonzalez, and Chapman were all necessary to start 2024, but the 2 SP's have just about all been replaced by the Jones, Skenes, Falter, etc. In the BP, Borucki is close to returning and Bednar should be ready after the AS Break. Those 3 FA's mentioned earlier could return at least a few much needed hitters to take us down the last 2 months of the season.
The Pirates are still in need of a CF and why not Jonatan Clase, 22, Switchhitter, strong D, now playing at the AAA level in the Seattle org. Stats are 221 AB, 61 hits, 11 doubles, 4 triples, 9 HR, 30 RBI, 39BB/69K, 24 SB, Slash of 275/379/482/861 OPS. The Mariners could use a SP (due to Injuries) to carry them through the last 2 months, and at 2B, 3B they have 3 guys who are being paid $18.1 mil combined and have fWAR numbers of 1.8, -0.2, and -0.4. Perez would fit nicely as the SP, and we have MI's/Ut IF's that can step right in!
Nice offensive games by TJ at A+ with a HR, 3 RBI's, Jhonny Severino, FCL, a double and a HR, 5 RBI; and YDLS, FCL, a HR, 3 RBI
Sounds great. From the little I saw him pitch at Pirate City, I am a big Harrington fan. There's not one pitch that stood out, but several seem to be above average. I heard on of our hitters taking BP tell him you have some serious shit.
Sorry about this but I'm headed out after today for a two week vacation and probably won't have much chance to comment during that time so here goes. The upcoming draft will likely dominate talk, but all I can say is I hope they get one of the college bats instead of a high schooler or another pitcher.
As far as the trade deadline, I think BC is waiting to see if the team goes on a winning streak (seems unlikely at this point) and if so will use that to say the team is fine as is and no additions are needed. If they keep losing and are 5-10 games under .500, he'll use that to say they aren't contending and no additions are needed. He'll probably trade away as many of the one year free agents as possible at that point and again try to sell the notion that he'll add next year. Hoping to be wrong and that they're solidly in the wild-card by the time I get back.
If Rowdy keeps hitting this month, he could have value as a DH for someone. Getting anything for Taylor or Grandal might be a challenge, but he managed to trade Hedges last year for some pool money and some team that has decent hitting outfielders might want Taylor strictly for defense. They aren’t going to get much if anything in return but honestly just getting rid of some of these guys as well as a few others on the roster would improve the team by their absence.
For all the criticism of Hedges last year, he was a positive value player. Grandal is -.4 WAR. As for Taylor, maybe a team that’s loaded with offense gives you a few hundred K in bonus pool money, but I wouldn’t be too hopeful there. Despite the defense, he’s still been roughly replacement level.
Nothing illustrates our problems better than using a guy recently claimed off waivers to pitch the 10th in a series-deciding game against a division rival.
I hope you are wrong 2 but this sounds exactly like what the Pirates will do. Nutting doesn't care because attendance is up and he is also making money through Skenes merchandise sales.
Randy Arozerena for Termarr Johnson and one of Barco, Solometo, Mueth. Which side says no?
Arozarena hitting .197 getting 8 million heading into an arbitration season. Easy answer.
Having a bad year this year. But historically has been a 3 WAR player.

i like aquiring Arozerena because of his career postseason numbers
but do not want to trade bubba nor termarr
i think Dylan Crews is about the only player i would trade Bubba or Termarr for
bmac
Nuttin’s wallet exercises its veto power.
Could be. But this is how you trade for a multi-year controllable player while dealing pitching depth and not impacting the immediate pipeline.
That’s how major league teams do it.
gotta find a taker for KeBryan´s salary in order for this to happen

Agree and do enjoy the vacation.
Have a great vacation, and safe travels!
Thanks. Appreciate it.
I could see a scenario where they “buy” and “sell.”
You “buy” a multi-year controlled bat, just spit balling here: like Brent Rooker.
You “sell” Perez, Chapman, etc for prospects. Honestly not sure anyone has value beyond those two though.

I think Taylor is a good 5th outfielder and can be used in situational play for a contender.

I think we need to start pitching some of our relievers more than one inning at a time. If so, we would have better pitchers for those situations.
Yep, it would have been ok if was the 12th or 13th inning but the 10th. Sure glad we used Ortiz for a couple innings on Tuesday.
Yeah, that was tough, not sure who I was expecting, im not a monday morning qb guy, but didnt expect him....oh well, what you said👍
Have a nice vacation🙏👍

Palacios could have been hitting in the tenth
