I think he'll get 1 or 2 with the pirates. I think when Altoona's season ends, a couple guys will move up (Wolf or Sullivan maybe). Then Priester and Contreras might move up for the last week or two for the pirates.
I still have faith in Priester. He is determined to get the maximum out of his ability —- a real student of pitching, somewhat like Skenes in that regard. If he figures out the pitch mix that works for him he can get by throwing 94-95 mph. I love the high strikeout totals in his last couple outings.
I’m not too concernedwhether he gets a couple big league starts in the next few weeks. I just want him to be ready to contribute to the rotation next year.
There is every indication that Priester is going to be a good pitcher. He has a top-flight curveball and a good slider. His sinker is good enough against righties. If he can master the cut fastball to pair with his curve against lefties, he will have all the tools that he needs to succeed. Then it is a matter only of confidence and repetition of good mechanics. He has shown the desire to improve and the intelligence to out-think hitters (which he will have to do). I have confidence that he will slot in next to Keller and provide results similar to those we now see from Keller by 2024.
I liked seeing his velocity up to 95mph last night. I haven't given up on him either. If his command comes along and velocity with his secondary pitches he has the making of a solid 3 maybe better.
Maybe he should talk with Keller for some off-season advice. (Treads) lol
Yeah... he's 22 years old... the same age as some of these guys just drafted out of college. He's also very similar to Keller with the same question marks and criticisms (his four-seamer lacks "shape," he struggles against lefties... etc.) and similar strengths (such his plus plus curve compared to Keller's plus plus sweeper). Keller struggled for 2+ years before becoming an All-Star pitcher. I wouldn't give up on him until there is no progress by the end of his age 25 or 26 season... that is pretty far off.
I'm with ya on not giving up on him. The only way I would trade him, is for a position of need like a very good outfielder, a young good first basemen or a proven starter with at least a couple years of control. Even then I'd pass on most trade proposals.
Things I'd like to see over the last 22:
- 10 or more wins to get to 75
- Strong finishes from Hayes, Peggy, & Endy
- Davis off IL & a couple good games for offseason momentum
- Bounce back MLB start for at least 1 of Contreras / Priester
Davis should get some time at dh if he comes off the IL. Maybe it can jump start his bat.
Preister! 22 games left; I'd probably give Quinn 3-4 starts to close out the season.

where's our boy James with the statcast link
Another very solid start with high K total... and i believe he trailed an opener both times

Trades I'd do. Priester + for Cowser
Priester for Tyler Soderstrom straight up.
Other than that not very many.
Of course Schanuel lol
