Obviously only seven games but it seems like MAT is listed with the top exit velocities almost every day. Impressive debut with a new team, especially after s shortened ST.
Yeah, he’s been way more — WAY more — than expected thus far, and I’ve likewise taken note of the fact he seems to be straight living in that daily EV leader list, so that crazy .500 batting average isn’t just seeing eye dribblers and luck.
He’s obviously not Ted Williams (minus some power and plus some hit tool), and the regression that obviously will come aren’t going to be fun. That said…if he somehow has a career (for him) year that’s been hiding in there and it decides to come out now, that would be huge to the teams outlook for this season!
Certainly a strong return for the Pirates, BC, and the FO. His maturity and defensive play in CF will help guys like Jack and hopefully Everson Pereira when he comes from the Yankees as the PTBNL in the BRU trade?
Will Mother Nature cooperate with the Pirates? Seeing pictures of the flooding at the Point, Northside, Acrisure, and everywhere else, will they be able to play?
An excellent start by the Pirates, coming off 7 straight games on the road with a 6-1 record. The Marlins and Nats may not be the best of competition, but W's and L's do not have asterisks attached. Last night was a nice win by the First Basemen, Tellez and Joe, who combined for 4 RBI on 3 hits, 2 BB, and only 1 K. SP Martin Perez pitched into the 7th for his first Pirate win, and helping to save work on a well used bullpen.
The home opener today against the Orioles with Jared Jones on the mound promises to have a lot of attention from the rest of the baseball world. Glad to see most of the teams in the minors also starting play, therefore a full schedule 6 days a week. Very nice hitting by 3B/1B Malcom Nunez, 23, at AAA against some of his former teammates, and a well pitched outing by LHSP Michael Plassmeyer, 27, who came to the Pirates from Philly. Kade McClure and Kyle Nicolas also looked good in relief.
In 5 games Nunez has 4 extra base hits, two of which are HRs. Nice start to the season! Looking forward to the games today. Exciting day to be a Bucs fan!
Somewhat agree! Usually a power hitting corner guy that makes his way over in the upper levels/majors. Whatever you call it, give me a homegrown guy over our typical 36 y/o FA junk
Nunez did well right after coming from the Cardinals in '22, but fought injuries last year at AAA. Love to see him hitting for power - still only in his age 23 season. The Pirates did well in that exchange of SP Quintana and RP Stratton to the Cards for their stretch run and getting SP Johan Oviedo, and Nunez.
Opening Day roll call whicha yinz joining Admin Sky at PNC?
May have to use this as the Gameday thread. I’m at the hospital about to have my Gallbladder removed.
Best of luck!
Will be in hause tonight for buccos opening day n'at! 161-1 incoming, LFGB
Jones, Skenes, and Chandler could very well be Pirates rotation in a best of 5 playoff series.

Christ, are you his agent?
Oh boy.
Pereira...

would be huge to have a legit 1B prospect for once!
I don't think there is such a thing as a legit 1b prospect...especially one that is RH.

I'm really close to being all in on the Tellez/Joe platoon.
Join me, see the light.
Joe’s the perfect short side platoon / utility guy. Would like a stronger lefty bat, but too soon to really say anything definitive on Rowdy.
If Nunez gets back to being a bona fide prospect that would be huge. Maybe the first base mediocre vet routine can finally end next season.
