Morning Rundown: Pirates lose again, rough night through the organization
The Pirates drop another game, organization goes 3-5 on the day
The Pittsburgh Pirates losing streak has now hit six games after dropping game two against the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1.
Paul Skenes allowed four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out eight across six innings pitched. He picks up his second loss of the season.
Ke’Bryan Hayes hit his first home run since June 18th, representing the Pirates' only run of the night. Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Bryan Reynolds collected two hits a piece, and Michael A. Taylor hit a double.
Skenes allowed three extra-base hits, two doubles, and a home run.
Bailey Falter will face Tyler Glasnow on Sunday as the Pirates look to avoid getting swept for the second straight series.
It was an overall rough night for the Pirates’ organization, as only the Bradenton Marauders and the DSL Gold teams won. The Greensboro Grasshoppers split their doubleheader, giving the system a third win on the day.
Bradenton will have a chance to go for a six-game sweep, meaning they will have won all 12 games they played against the St. Lucie Mets.
Javier Rivas hit a three-run home run, providing the majority of the offense, and Carlos Jimenez pitched five one-hit innings while striking out five in picking up the win.
A first-inning error led to four unearned runs charged against Carlson Reed, but he was fantastic outside of that in his second start at the High-A level.
Reed generated 18 whiffs while striking out seven batters across five innings pitched. The seven punchouts put him over the century mark on the season, now sitting at 104.
