I feel bad for Bob Nutting. He just doesn't have the money to put a quality team on the field. I know it's true, because DK said so. π I also love the way Brown brought up DK's article earlier in the series. Greg Brown can kiss my ass, fucking shill for Bob Nutting. Greg truly is the Pirate Parrot.
It's one thing to lack offensive talent. It's another thing to lack focus and fundamentals, two things that can be developed thru coaching and culture. It's like DS and GMBC expect players to come to the big leagues and suddenly become professional ball players. What are the minor leagues for? Are they playing Quidditch? I know, let's add two middling veterans to the roster, so they can teach these players how to be pros? Really?
Instead of placing value on playing multiple positions, maybe help players to be great at one, which would allow them to put more focus on their offense. Not everyone can be Triolo. Sorry for the rant. The money thing is an issue, but it's not exclusive to the Pirates nor does it excuse the lack of leadership in developing players. It's not a three game problem. This garbage has been going on for years.
Iβm pretty bemused by the notion of Pham getting in peopleβs faces. The only way he can make a difference is to get in Ben & Derryβs faces.
Seriously, itβd be nice if the Pirates suddenly started doing the βlittle things,β but itβs really just a deflection. Itβs the latest version of Jim Tracyβs βsecret formulaβ of pitching, defense and timely hitting. The Pirates have had a bottom five group of position players for six straight seasons. No volume of βlittle thingsβ can make up for that. The βlittle thingsβ are irrelevant when you donβt have good players. Get good players first, then worry about βlittle things.β
And thatβs apart from the absurdity of thinking that the same management team thatβs failed for six seasons to produce a team that can do the βlittle thingsβ has any chance of producing one now.
So, Owner , GM, and Manager are all the same for the past 6 years - is it time for Nutting to call BC onto the proverbial carpet to ask what he thinks needs to be done to correct this problem - if firing Shelton is not the answer, then Nutting will know he has to fire both BC and Shelton. Turn the day to day on-field Management over to Don Kelly, and start a search for a new GM. Ask Dan O'Dowd to step in during the interim and assist with selection of the next GM.
If Pham is this guy who gets in people's faces when they make mental mistakes like they claim, he must have had a busy night last evening. That includes Rabelo's bonehead move to send him with no outs and Cruz coming up. Also, Bart trying to go to third on a groundball to short was another of just many miscues this team continues to make. It's going to be a long season.
Funny how Brown and Capps were applauding Bart for staying in rundown long enough for Key to get to second. That's the low bar we have with this team, all of Shelton's teams actually.
That was a single by Hayes, SS had no play at first. It wasn't just exchanging runners on 2nd.
I've missed all but an inning of the games due to a music fest going on all weekend in Knoxville, but when I read about the mistakes they largely seem to be about coaching and development, the "little things" that Shelton keeps preaching about.

Well said sir!
Bart, Cruz and Hayes getting the day off.
Sure three games in on March 30, gotta get everybody their rest days. /s
Hopefully this team is learning from their mistakes this weekend and start playing a cleaner, smarter, brand of baseball as a result.
Good game, Jack! Now go sit until Wednesday.
Ill take Jack as seeming to have a positive night at the plate and call it there
Same old garbage from this team. No fundamentals.
