Morning Rundown: Pirates offense comes alive again, hit two more home runs
Henry Davis, Matt Gorski go deep for the Pirates.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have won consecutive games for the first time in Spring, defeating the Detroit Tigers by the score of 7-3.
Henry Davis hit his second home run, a solo shot in the first inning, and drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk.
Termarr Johnson also picked up a hit, as did Alika Williams, Nick Gonzales, and Matt Gorski (a solo home run).
Canaan Smith-Njigba walked three times, stole a base, and scored a run.
On the mound, Roansy Contreras pitched 2.1 innings, allowed just a hit, and walked three while striking out a single batter.
Colin Holderman had a rough outing, as he didn’t make it out of his inning, walking three and allowing a pair of runs. Braxton Ashcraft hit the upper 90s with his fastball, struck out two, and got three whiffs on four sliders thrown.
The Pirates will go for a third straight Spring victory on Sunday, facing the Baltimore Orioles in Bradenton. Martin Perez is the expected starter, which will be his 2024 debut with his new team.
First pitch is expected around 1:05 pm ET.
