Morning Rundown: Pirates release three minor leaguers, this week on Bucs on Deck
Pirates release minor leaguers, a look ahead at what's upcoming here on the site.
According to the transaction log, the Pirates released three minor-league players at the end of January.
Eliecer Romero, 22, pitched in the FCL last year, posting a 4.22 ERA in 20 games - all out of the bullpen. He struck out 22 batters but also walked 17. He pitched pretty well in the Complex in 2022 but took a step back last year.
Keneth Quintanilla, 21, also pitched in the FCL last year, posting a 5.13 ERA in 18 games. He put up decent strikeout numbers (26.6%) but struggled with the control (13.4% walk rate).
The most interesting of the group, Jorge Ramos, was a 21-year-old reliever who made it to Greensboro this past season. He had posted a career ERA of 2.84 with 122 strikeouts in 126.2 innings pitched.
He climbed three levels last year, going from the FCL to Bradenton and finally to Greensboro. While in Bradenton, his slider and change-up registered whiff rates of over 30%.
This week, we will unveil our own Top 25 prospects in the system. The entire list, with player write-ups, will be released on Friday around noon.
For the entire week leading up to it, we will have tie-in features that will work around our rankings.
Monday will be our ‘just missed’ article, going over the three players who just missed the cut.
Nola, WTM, and I will give three prospects to watch outside the top 30 in the following three days. It was free reign who we wanted to talk about, the only criteria was that we couldn’t have voted for them on the list. The idea was to highlight players potentially further down the list to watch or even that we enjoyed watching play.
Friday, the actual list will drop, with write-ups on each player.
To go along with the tie-in features and the actual rankings, we will do a ‘season kick-off’ sale here on the site. You can get 20% off a yearly subscription by signing up now and through the rest of February.
Due to the housing situation, I backed off from doing my video breakdowns and other features that were generally under the premium section.
Those will return, so now is the best time to get subscribed and ready for the season.
Ramos has some interesting numbers, but his WHIP doubled+ from FCL where it was around 0.7 to A where it was above 1.6. Very few innings at A+, and they were not very good.
Question: CSN was DFA'd on Jan 31 - to the best of my knowledge watching the MLB Transactions page, he has not been picked up. How long does the process take? And, second - if he is not claimed by another team, would the Pirates try to bring him back and not waste the developmental efforts we have already expended?
Super excited to see the features this week, great work fellas!
