Yamamoto, followed by 4 relievers who didn't give up a hit or walk, shut down the Cubs. Banda
first reliever in the 6th. Casparius 7th (rookie), Treinen 8th, and Tanner Scott closer. Three RPs over 30 years old. I'm thinking we should take the same approach.....roster the vets who have done this before in a real game. It's gonna be some difficult choices.
Watched the replay last night and it was quite obvious that Skenes was trying to work the outside of the plate vs lefties.
Although Skenes was very good, this is not the Skenes you'll see once they count.
Noticed Nick Yorke was not ready to deal with Skenes's 1st pickoff attempt and he looks pretty bad in general at 1b. I'm watching Yorke and I'm not seeing a good athlete, kinda boxy and doesn't have good quickness.
Thank you, had not seen anything about how Yorke was handling 1B. It sounds like Davis could be about the same defensively at 1B? They need a RH hitting possible, so . .
I could be off as I'm just a fan trying to see things, but Yorke certainly does not come off as a fast twitch athlete. His swing reminds me of a bit a Hayes and some Tabata.
Doesn't mean he can't be a solid contributor, but there are some limitations.
Endy could be the non-First Base player with the most 1B experience, and they took him off 1B to concentrate on Catching, rather than allow him to continue doing both. Hard to figure where the Pirates management is at sometimes? Been doing that since he was signed by the Mets about 6 or 7 years ago.
It only took a few innings of watching Bill Miller call balls and strikes to make me miss the challenge system. Who am I kidding, I'd miss it even if there weren't the obvious mistakes.
Perdomo traded from the Braves to the Angels. I has hoped the Pirates would be able to get him back, and I was pretty sure the Braves wouldn't have room on their 26 man roster. Was avaliable for essentially nothing. The Pirates really turned his career around. Lefty who threw 94-95, why not take a chance?
Give the Pirates a month of reports of Bart, Hayes, and Reynolds going yard and they could have a .500+ season. Bar Info - Who led the Pirates in HR/PA in 2024? Joey Bart - a HR every 21.7 PA followed by Cutch - a HR every 25.7 PA; Cruz - a HR every 28.5 PA; Reynolds - a HR every 28.8 PA; and Suwinski - a HR every 30.8 PA. Who led the Pirates in 2023? Jack Suwinski, a HR every 20.5 PA.
Another excellent start from Paul Skenes, IKF with 3 hits, and Suwinski and Gonzales with doubles, Rodriguez a triple and NG and Endy with 2 RBI's apiece. If that does not seal the deal for Jack Suwinski and Endy Rodriguez on the Active Roster going to Miami, then we have a scoop. Both had good years with the Pirate in 2023. Endy missed 2024 injured and Jack got off to a bad start in 2024, and was sent down to AAA. Glad to see YDLS getting a hit.
Again, the question is "what do the Pirates do with Adam Frazier? We still need a RH hitter at 1B - if Davis could play 1B he would be my pick, but Yorke should be that last position player on the 25, and covering 1B, unless they use that switch hitting bat of Endy Rodriguez.

there´s only so much we can expect in return for quinn priester
He did very well against the Pirates, but overall in ST he has pitched 9.1 innings, giving up 14 Hits, and 7 Walks, and the ERA is up to 4.82.
check out luis ortiz...

He's not the only former Buc arm on that staff. Jose Soriano has a chance of being pretty damn good.
