Me with all of the prospect knowledge ever is very excited for billy cook. Slow burn kinda guy that sounds like a solid player that is a legit starter as of next year
I'll be counting it down. They need to go 32-22 to have a meaningful shot at the last wildcard. We need to win 2 or more in 16 of our next 18 series or run off a handful of sweeps.
Just looked at each, very similar. Yorke seems to keep his mid section more in line with his legs, probably helps to hit the ball with more authority. Diego bends in his mid section a bit more losing his base. Yorke and Nick Gonzales (this year) swings are pretty similar as well, Gonzales has been more pull heavy though.
Not sure what the Pirates are going to do with Jack Brannigan and Termarr Johnson, but IMO, they need to be promoted to AA this week. Brannigan has a few days left on a 7 day IL. At AA we have Cheng at SS and Pichardo (from SD for Wolfe) at 2B. Cheng fields well, but has had issues at the plate. Pichardo also fields well at 2B and probably hits better than Cheng, but is not a power hitter and his K/BB is higher than 4/1 - that won't get it!
Clearly, if we are planning for the future, Brannigan and Johnson should be at Altoona this week, and we already have Peguero and Yorke at AAA, and Cruz and IKF/Tri at the MLB level. Well set for the future.
July was a nice month for the Bucs. Best record in the Central. All 3 division leaders, Phils, Brewers, and Dodgers, finished with losing records because baseball is weird.
“Out of 60 pitches, Solometo threw his changeup 45 times. He had five whiffs on 25 swings, along with five called strikes. The pitch sat 88.4 MPH, touching 91.4, and was in the zone 38% of the time. He threw nine sliders, with one whiff and three called strikes. He only threw six fastballs the entire game.” Not sure how is that a change up with the speed sooo close to his fb, but at least he’s working on it.
his fastball and change up gets mis categorized all the time. You have to look at the spin rate difference. A lot of the change ups were in the 2400s, so those were just fastballs.
Savant may fix it eventually, but they’ve also blended those two pitches together
From Fangraphs in their Top 40 Prospects of the Pirates on June 19th - "His delivery evokes Madison Bumgarner's long lefty arm stroke, but Solometo doesn't have quite the same bodily looseness or arm strength. Many of his fastballs are erroneously autotagged as changeups because they are so slow."
Rough start for the Cards new SP today. A shame.
Per FG
-Yorke was the 10th best prospect traded
-Shim was the 35th best prospect traded
-Reilly 45th
-Peralta 47th
-McAdoo 70th
-Forrester 71st
-Billy Cook 77th

That "not quite a regular" on Yorke has me having flashbacks of every Cherington MiF pickup ever.
Huge homestand we are starting here, 4-2 isnt absolutely necessary but would be a huge boost

Did a bit of a deep dive and went down a rabbit hole watching video on Yorke.
Man, does he remind me of a slightly better version of Diego Castillo. The body type, the way he stands in the box, the swing, the way he moves.

a little taller and by now about 20 lbs heavier than Diego but sure
one inch and 15 lbs
However, I'm guessing Diego weighs closer to 2 bills nowadays.
Watch him in the box, then go watch Yorke.
Hopefully you're wrong. One we're pretty sure has very little business being in a MLB lineup. The other tbd.
I'm not talking about them being identical players. Just the body type, stance and the way he moves in the box.
If you put a bag over their heads, you probably would have trouble distinguishing one from the other.
Ah got it, don't personally care much about that. More the stats they can get to. I will say I think Bryan Reynolds has a pretty swing.

Cheng does field well and is good on the base paths. Even his hitting gave me high hopes until he got to Altoona.
Totally agree, looked at their A+ stats and there's no reason they shouldn't both be in Altoona by now.
Brannigan: 112 games: 20 2Bs, 29 HRs, .866 OPS
Termarr: 121 games: 17 2Bs, 16 HRs, 100 BBs, .808 OPS
Rumor has it IKF will be activated today. So let the record show I’m the 1st Pirates fan to say:
I lIKF IKF
T-shirts coming soon. 😎
Was my tattoo premature?
Never!

good info.
On Solo’s five innings from P2;

I've said it before, I think the absolute best outcome for him is Hoby Milner

That’s when you know a guy throws slop. If the science pitching machine can’t tell the difference between a heater and change.
Glad to see him getting batters out, regardless of the speed or level.
He’s officially dead to me until he proves he can get out upper level hitters with consistency.

That makes sense.
