Morning Rundown: Pirates take series against Rockies, Lonnie White has three-hit day for Greensboro
Pirates win on Father's Day, Lonnie White closes out week strong.
The bats came alive for the Pirates, who won the final game of their weekend series against the Colorado Rockies.
Six hitters finished with mult-hit days, including Rowdy Tellez leading the way with three (two RBI as well). Jared Trilo, Jason Delay, and Oneil Cruz all hit doubles on the day.
Josh Fleming pitched four shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out two. Carmen Mlodzinski, Justin Bruihl, and Kyle Nicolas combined to close things out for the Pirates.
After going 3-3 on this road trip, the Pirates will return to Pittsburgh for a six-game homestand against the Reds and Rays.
Paul Skenes is scheduled to start for the Pirates on Monday.
It’s been a rough year for Lonnie White Jr., as he’s struggled to put the ball into the play. When he has made contact, it has been solid, and he was able to string together a decent week against Winston-Salem, which was highlighted by Sunday’s game.
White went 3-4 with three runs scored, two RBI, and a walk, with the day being capped off by his 10th home run of the season. Over half of his hits (17 of 30) have gone for extra bases.
The strikeouts have been an issue, and he did have a game where he punched out three times. Outside of that, he only struck out one other time last week, and he played in all six games.
Six of the seven minor league affiliates finished with a .500 record or better over the last week. Greensboro went 5-1 against the Winston-Salem Dash, and the DSL Pirates Gold team finished with a perfect 5-0 record.
Altoona (4-2) and the FCL team (2-1) also finished with a running record for the last week.
