Morning Rundown: Pirates win big in Milwaukee, David Bednar makes rehab appearance
Pirates kick off series with Brewers with an offensive explosion
The Pittsburgh Pirates hit five home runs on their way to a massive 12-2 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Only Michael A. Taylor and Jared Triolo failed to pick up a hit for the Pirates’ offense, with four players getting multiple hits. Rowdy Tellez and Bryan Reynolds stayed hot, picking up two hits, one of which was a home run.
Quinn Priester has had a rough time pitching in the majors, and the offense has not given him much run support.
He allowed two runs (one earned) in six innings while striking out eight on his way to the first win of the season, the fourth of his major league career.
The eight strikeouts were a career-high for Priester as well.
Martin Perez has a chance to clinch the series for the Pirates, with Paul Skenes also expected to pitch on Thursday.
David Bednar and Ryan Borucki made rehab appearances for the Altoona Curve on Tuesday.
The left-handed Borucki was the first to enter the game, needing just 14 pitches to get through 1.2 innings, striking out two.
Bednar pitched a single inning, striking out a hitter and throwing 17 pitches, 12 for strikes.
Getting both back would be a massive boost to the Pirates bullpen. Borucki hasn’t pitched for the Pirates since April 5. Bednar pitched last in the majors on June 19.

Why not try and swing a trade for Dylan Carlson, honestly? Cards need pitching. I don't know what's wrong with the guy but he looked like a really good young switch hitting CF in '21 and '22 and the Cards haven't exactly been the most functional show on earth since then. A bit of a history taking walks and with some baserunning value, too. He's listed as a guy who played through injury in '23. Shut him down for a month and aim at calling him up mid-August. Might take a minor overpay in division but wouldn't cost much.
Welp
