Bednar had limited work in ST, so his start to the season doesn't surprise me. The lineup is longer and can score with small ball and/or power. However, some of those ABs later in the game were embarrassing. Guys need to swing the bat. We haven't seen the power much yet, but we will. Regardless of today's outcome, I feel good about this team. Skenes will help solidify the starting pitching but that's for later in the season.
Altoona is packed with pitching potential but that lineup is Ghosts o’ Prospects Past. Can’t we give Matt Frazier and Connor No achievement awards to Indy? Heck Eddy Yean earned his way outta Greensboro w a >5 era.
I got home just in time to see last two outs in the top of the 11th so missed most of the drama, but the contrast in emotions on the two consecutive pitches that led to Mullins' catch and Cruz's hit was remarkable.
In watching highlights, I saw that Orioles' outfielders robbed a couple of other hits and was also impressed with Cruz's perfect throw to keep the game tied in the 9th--there have been so many times when his throws have not quite been on target but he needed perfection there and came through.
Pirates win 5-4 in 11 innings. They are in first place with the best record in baseball.

Living in a hole, as a rabbit is want to do, it can get a bit damp when it rains this much. This is a mixed blessing because the roof of my domicile is covered with a vegetable garden. This means that April showers bring CARROTS ON THE HOUSE!!!!

@> One Rowdy Carrot for Tellez: 3 for 4 with a run, an rbi and a base on balls.
@> @> Two Joey Carrots for Bart: Welcome home, kid, if'n yer gonna hit the ball that HAAARRDD! 2 for 5 with a homer and a double. Nice dumpster dive, B.C.!
@> @> @> And Three Bailey Carrots for Falter: Who faltered all spring training long, fading us out of position into thinking he was terrible and THEN HE COMES BACK and pitches six innings of one hit baseball. Dang. Nice dumpster dive, B.C.!

A batch of sour persimmons for the Renegade for his second blown save of the season. Perhaps his light spring was a result of overuse in 2023 and we're seeing his decline now. Da Wabbit hopes not, but we are wondering if his underlying stats reveal anything about this alarming early season run.

I think I very much like how this team fights through adversity. I also am beginning to think this team has enough talent to stay in the race all summer.
Let’s focus on the good today after a thrilling victory yesterday.
In Milb play, boy Fineas Del Bonta Smith certaintly had a day as did Gorski and Head (i honestly started to forget about Head, shame on me🤷♂️) amongst others. On the MLB side of things, not sure what Falters is, but that was impressive, and how about Joey Bart👏👏....P.S. Chapman is kicking butt👍
A lot of early comments in yesterday’s game thread that did not age well, probably should have been talking about why Cherington didn’t trade Bednar this past offseason 🤷🏻♂️

All 5 teams in the NL Central have records above .500. The rest of the National League have 2.
NL Central powerhouse, just like everyone called it before the season!

They’re not playing the dregs now. Both teams made big plays. Nice to see them stand up to a really good team.
How do you figure Bailey Falter? Was it him just hitting his spots or the presence of Joey Bart as the receiver?
Last year he was either really good or throwing BP. Rays would turn him into Tom Glavine in five minutes.
7 down. 74 to go.

Bit early to make that sort of proclamation about one of the best RP’s in all of MLB.
I say let’s see what we got when Mlod, Holderman, Chapman, and Bednar are all healthy.
Those 4 plus Borucki, Ortiz, Ro, and Stratton make for a special bullpen.
While I like this sentiment, how often are all the pitchers who show promise healthy?
