Bullpen and lineup are carrying the team, and it’s fun to watch.
The team will have a tremendous amount of payroll flexibility this winter to attract and sign several impact players. Only Reynolds and Hayes have guaranteed contracts next year, and only Keller and Bednar due for significant raises in arbitration.
BC will easily have $40 million or more to spend this winter in FA or trades for veterans. Hopefully a whole lot more than that to shore up starting pitching and 1B.
Thanks for the great cup o’ Bucs this morning. Like, if we could just throw out May/ June this would have been a storybook season. The talent is here. Boy they need to identify a top SP and sign him though.
No reason they shouldn’t be in on one or two of the many really good SP’s available this winter. Snell, Gray, or Montgomery would work for me, with a bounce back like Severino, too.
It's great watching these young kids fight for their placement in the 2024 season, and help the Pirates mental image in the process. No doubt that Endy Rodriguez will be at least 50% of our Catching tandem next year, and Jared Triolo, our best Minor League 3B, has come up to MLB to play 3B, 2B, and seeing 1B last night. Both EndyRod (105.8 mph, 431') and Triolo (104.7 mph, 415') homered when the Pirates needed it most to help secure the victory.
Triolo has been smoking hot his last 15 Games with 42 AB, 10 R, 11 H, 2 Doubles, 3 HR, and 3 SB. He has also improved his BB/K during that period with 10 BB/16 K. Slash during those last 15 games of .262/.426/.524/.950 OPS.
The Reds and the Pirates are both very young teams and could flip flop the Central in 2024. Stratton throwing 98.1, and LL Ortiz 97.8 and 9 Swings and Miss are encouraging from 2 pitching Rookies.
I think the biggest sign for optimism is that Triolo make adjustments and they are working right now. Shoot if he can hit he’s a hell of a weapon. Play all four positions and be a solid hitter... makes me quite a bit more confident about this lineup heading into 2024!
He also had a broken hamate bone, which is known to sap power for some time. It may be coming back. He was never a power hitter, but he wasn't going to have .040 ISO or whatever it was for a while.
There've been scouts who've just raved about Triolo. I think he's always gotten sold short by fans because he's clearly never going to hit 40 HRs or anything. The hamate and the fact that he just seems to need time to adjust at each level has added to that. He may be a very valuable player for the Pirates going forward. His history is that he will hit eventually.
I hope they give him a look at short. He could probably play every position outside the battery and be competent or better. Like you said he'll never hit 40 HRs but I could definitely see him getting into the 20's possibly pushing 30 on a career year.
He's arguably one of the pirates best trade chips to aquire pitching or another position of need, but is probably better for the pirates to keep if they plan to contend as early as next year.
To me, a guy like triolo is invaluable in making our roster composition work. All of his positional flexibility makes us able to sign a guy like cutch that is probably DH only without completely fucking our ability to manipulate the roster as we need throughout the year
I agree, he has plus to elite defense at 3rd, 2nd and 1st. He's probably above average at short and could most likely figure out the outfield in a few weeks of practice. He's very versatile in case of injury or he could be close to an everyday player at multiple positions.
I wouldn't rule out a trade if the return was a mid rotation pitcher with control or an above average regular with control at CF or 1st base.
I wouldn't want to trade him for prospects unless it was an overpay with 2 or 3 good prospects coming back.
Boy im high on some buccos baseball this morning, which i know is bound to break my heart in a few days, but im going to love it while its here
Well one good thing to come out of using all these openers late in the season is like having another spring training to look at your relievers, lol.

The fact that we barely have a MLB pitching staff and still winning is blowing my mind.

C’mon BC seize the moment.

This version of Triolo is a starter on a contender.
A starting IF of Hayes, Cruz, Triolo, Bellinger, and Endy sounds amazing to me.
It's a shame Bellinger is out of Pittsburgh price range, dude can play.
He’s only out of their price range because they refuse to pay him.
