That is the difference between a team with a) a lot of star and not as much depth compared to b) a team with few stars, but a lot of depth. The Pirates just don't have enough roster spots for all of the guys they picked up or traded for. Despite never really hitting for the Pirates, I loved the way Marcano played the game.
What will remain to be seen is if Tucu can remain on the 40 man in SD or not. I liked him too but as you said a lot of similar guys for the depth and we have not enough room. I do like having too many good depth guys to go with the actual prospects who could be every day guys in the show than like all the years we had of not having to worry about protecting any one because everyone know most of our minor leaguers would not ever make it to the show.
I agree. We did get Marcano, Suwinski and a minor league pitcher for Adam Frazier. We probably had hopes for Suwinski, but I think he surprised almost everyone to make it to the bigs like he has.
I will be in Peoria bright and early Saturday morning for the Class A state cross country meet. It's great to know there is another person on board that is not hundreds of miles away.
Well I am now. I went to college in Chicago and never returned. I'm actually living in Wisconsin now. My family is still down there, though. Many of them. It's rough to live in Cubs and Cards territory as a Pirates fan, though.
I used to live in Peoria. Are those white t-shirt gang kids still terrorizing town?
Wow! Lived in Columbus OH pre internet days and was stuck between Cleveland and Cincinnati. Could rationalize rooting for the Tribe as they were in the AL and several friends that I made were Cleveland fans. Could never not hate the Reds. That was when Pete was managing and I used to want the bust up the radio whenever they had him on the sports talk shows. Was such an arrogant cuss. Was not fun to not see the Bucs ever on TV and had to listen in my car cruising up and down I-71 if ever I wanted to listen on the radio on KDKA AM. That was bad enough with just some Red fans to contend with. Could not imagine dealing with Cub fans every day. Only thing worse would be Cards fans every day!
Now that we are older, I can deal with my Cardinal and Cub fans are fine. Growing up Cub fans always magnified how good or bad they were by 100 times. Cardinal fans are the self pro-claimed smarted fans in baseball. Very respectful towards the teams they are beating, but the world is going to end the few years they are only average. I am glad someone sympathizes with my pain. :)
It's a good thing the casual fan got to see the incredible 29 year old Josh Sborz pitch the last inning of the final game of the 2023 World Series. If Sborz and his over 5 ERA didn't suck fans back into watching baseball again, I don't what else would.
Amazing that he plugged away the last 2 years and the 5,50 this year was better than last year. Shows up in October and only gives up 1 run in 12 innings for a 0.75 ERA. Talk about showing up when it mattered.
You are correct. I was just being smart pointing out that pitching in the world series is much different back in the day. The days of complete games by big name pitchers are probably over and possibly even with the lights outs closer. I don't think the casual fan even checks what the pitching matchup is anymore.
Rookie who had an ugly regular season ERA because he gave up 5-7 runs a game in his first few games. He settled in and kept improving through the season and post season. He is a keeper to me.
context is not whether he is a keeper and has a future value 2024 and beyond
its the question of whether the years of control of those prospects is worth more than one additional win in the series of seven to determine the world championship
When was the last time an actual prospect made it into one of the AFL re-caps. They took all the fun out of the AFL, jerks.
Other than wishing we got two more games out of it, I say this World Series was perfect. Proof that even modest spending every single franchise can easily afford is enough to get you dancing, while also rewarding the better team who had the audacity to go out and get it.
I also definitely wish we wouldve gotten the full 7 games, but the Dbacks would have been one of, if not the single, worst team to win it all so i dont mind that they didnt get there
I'm probably just yelling at clouds so ignore me but it does seem like the Pirate media ecosystem is a mile wide and inch deep. Yunz should team up.
Murph definitely not telling you what to do but everybody has takes yet nobody puts together video scouting like you do. That's your thing, lean into it!
On board for the weekly mailbag thing too, lets be honest we just ask questions as conversation starters.
Last I saw, the old place had gotten rid of the comment feature and now seems to be completely down? I cant load it on any browser but i dont know how all this technology thing works
All that to say: I think AM really has a chance to corner the market on anything and everything related to the pirates' minor league system. The video coverage is fantastic, writing and breakdown is great, and the BoD squad keeps growing on the daily.
All in on mail bag feature! Plenty of ways you can give it a different flavor imo, whether you run weekly themes or maybe guests giving their answers (either site contributors or cameos from other Pirates' content producers), and could even include some fun or gag questions to mix it up
I didn't see the end of the game and the celebration. Were there any shots of Austin Hedges flipping a double bird and screaming "EFFFF YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU PITTSBURGH!"????
Weeeeellllllll SufferinBuccotash, to be fair, as far as I can see checking every box score in the AL playoffs from the wild card through the World Series, here is Austin Hedges' line for those games combined: 0-1 with a strike-out.
To be fair, their regular catcher, Heim, tends to kind of get at least one hit every game and he has a knack, at least in the post-season, for driving in runs.
Moral of the Story: Have a really good starting catcher.
Anduhar, Perdomo, and Yerry just got put on outright waivers this evening. I think that puts them at 34 on the 40 man now.
Sad day………Tucu was claimed back by the Friars today…………

Jack is one of the unmitigated wins Cherington has had on the trade market, full stop!
I still have more hopes for Jack as he is still fairly young and has still been improving at the end of this season. Have the fingers crossed!
Another Pirates fan from Central IL?!
I am. Are you also from central Illinois?
Yes, I'm from in between Princeton and Peoria, IL in the IL River Valley.
I will be in Peoria bright and early Saturday morning for the Class A state cross country meet. It's great to know there is another person on board that is not hundreds of miles away.

Diamondbacks would have won if they forked over Drew Jones, Alek Thomas and Lawler to us
For who? Keller?
and Bednar
they were more than happy to see Phaadt pitch for them in the world series
deserved to lose
smh ....
Pfaadt had a great postseason run, think their lineup was more of the problem than their pitching imo
seemed like each time I tuned in late, they were down by three runs and he was on the mound

He helped get them to the series. @AdministrativeSky236 is right in my opinion. The bats failed more than the starting pitching for the Snakes.

Maybe I'm too old school, but if I never see a BP game in a WS, I'll die happy.
Amen.

Idk if anyone follows the jomboy crew, but seeing Jake Storiale in a white croptop as the AZ pool lifeguard last night had me laughing out loud

Self plug on my own site. Wrote about Marcus Semien on Yardbarker this morning.

Apparently, Hedges is going to wear assless chaps with a cowboy hat to the Rangers WS parade.
This is the content i come here for
and they wasted all that money on Bochy when they could have had a 'Shelton'.
/s
I know, right. If only the Buccos had Bochy, they would be flying a flag.
My stalkers back!
Here’s a suggestion for some off-season fun, have a contest to predict the players and contracts, years and money, the Pirates sign in FA this winter.
Winner gets a gift subscription to give to a friend/family member.
Put down 10 bucks on the Bucs for a WS win this morning.
I like the way you think
I didn't see the end of the game and the celebration. Were there any shots of Austin Hedges flipping a double bird and screaming "EFFFF YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU PITTSBURGH!"????
HA!

lol. I'm stunned he had one AB....
