5 years of control at league minimum versus Joe at 20m for the next 4 years? eh- no way, you must be high. not unless we are getting something else back or SD is paying half of musgrove's salary
Might be just me, but that minor crack that existed for the MI when ST began has been slammed shut by two guys who could be our MI in 2024 at Altoona - Tsung-Che Cheng and Termarr Johnson. After TJ's 2 homer day he came back yesterday late in the game and put a charge into another ball - 106.6 mph for a Double. That followed Cheng's 101.7 mph, 423' HR earlier in the game. I find it hard to think the Pirates may opt to start TJ back at A+, and Cheng was already at AA when last year ended.
Based on those showings and ST so far, we are going to have a MI for the Pirates of Oneil Cruz and Liover Peguero with a Utility IF, Jared Triolo who is capable of stepping into the position of our best defensive infielder and all of the other IF positions. At AAA we will have Williams and Gonzales, and possibly Bae. I expect (HOPE) that a trade or 2 could take place before the season begins that could change that group at AAA, but no changes to the MI at MLB or at AA.
YES! The Pirates are very solid in the BP, but right now there could be 4 or 5 newbies similar to Jared Jones who could fit into our BP. If the Pirates can get a solid young ballplayer (RH hitting CF) and the other team asks for one of our top RP's, we have the ability to make that trade. We are that deep right now and we need to use our present resources to get what we do not have in our minor league system!
Last year we put Mlodzinski into the BP and he did very well. We also looked at Stratton, Selby, Nicolas, Wolf, and Falter. This year we could also add Braxton Ashcraft and Cam Alldred looked good the other day. We have a strength and we need to use it to get what we do not have!
I honestly don't know why they haven't attempted to flip a reliever (maybe they have tried?) for a hitter. Seattle may have just lost Brash (HINT HINT BEN!!!!). I kind of thought it was the plan once they signed Chapman, even if for a decent starter for the rotation.
Yes, as soon as I saw that Brash was expected to miss significant time, I thought let's offer them Holderman, but I'd be going for a young starter. It's easy to be caught up in Jones' velocity and spin rates, Ortiz's velocity, Priester's slider, ... (I'm guilty of this, thinking last night that maybe we will be okay), but realistically our rotation is still our weak link.
I'm skeptical of our hitting too, but I can't think of a position, other than maybe 1B, that there isn't a player slotted for that I want to see playing.
So BTV says we'd need to add to Holderman, but Bae, Contreras, Ortiz, Priester, or Triolo are valued such to make it a fair deal. None of them are guys I'd want to part with, but to add a more reliable starter to our rotation would be worth it (I don't know enough about Miller to know if he's the right target, though).
I am worried (as a yinzer) that bednar will be the option within a year or two, but someone like holdermann might be seen as a future closer by some teams and feels like a guy that we could probably backfill successfully
Hold Man was my first thought, followed by Borucki, who will be a FA after 2024 iirc. The Yankees have the RH hitting CF (Everson Pereira) and they love the Pirates, especially after we traded Clay Holmes to them for two guys I cannot remember. But, it helped Clay and he turned himself around. Hold Man or Borucki could help the Yankees at very little hit to their payroll. Either one straight up for Pereira?
Skenes throwing to hank with holliday leading off? Please forgive if my posts become nsfw in a HURRY
We should at least be able to listen through the Pirates web site. There is a "Listen free" link on the front page.
Going to need updates, looks like all tv broadcasts are being blacked out.
Aye aye!
And then Adley? This game is top pick heaven lol Hjerstad was 2nd overall in 2020.
You’re gonna need a cigarette after this game…
Padres looking for outfielders and they have recently been seeking out their old prospects (Patino, Marcano, etc...)
Sources saying Jack heading back to SD for Musgrove

and.......whom exactly would play outfield if that happened. we have NO outfield depth.
So there is now a stat for expected batting average on individual pitches that are hit? Advanced stats have officially jumped the shark....
The nerds, man…the nerds
Now? There has been, for a while. It's a calculation based on every ball hit at similar data and how often it goes for a hit.
Never heard of it before this article today.....
Good morning from Bradenton!

Setting my expectations low on Skenes, expecting 2 hit less innings, 25 pitches, 27 K’s.
Allowing room for two foul balls, no balls put in play
Is it just me or does Jared Jones give off some major “Joe Kelly vibes”?

Holderman --> Miller!!!

Holderman and Bae for Miller or Woo. Do it!!!! lol throw in Ortiz or Ro and then they can also give us Locklear

Holderman has been the one I personally think should be shopped. I'd say Bednar, but I don't think they'll do that.
