Low-key happy they got Tristan back. Wasn't thrilled they traded him away as I thought he looked promising. 28, in his prime, has pop, and defensive versatility. He may not be more than a AAAA guy, but worth a waiver claim on him.
Well, that takes all of the air out of that balloon. This is just a little chin music for the next pitch which is that they have hammered out a multi-year contract with the guy who has managed the Pirates to a .415 winning percentage over the past 5 years.
Sammy Siani continues to impress in the AFL, and I hope our FO is paying attention. A R/L combo of Billy Cook and Sammy Siani to go along with Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz could be a nice defensive upgrade that this team really needs. Either or both Cook or Siani could lend a much-needed hand in LF, and allow Reynolds to move to RF, and a lot less area to patrol. I know this is very unlike the Pirates who think it necessary that a player touch base at each minor league stop, but if Siani can prove himself in ST, why wait?
He'll be a 29 year old in ST? Maybe we saw something in the 31 PA in MLB with 3 hits, 3 Walks, and 16 K's. Maybe I'm mistaken thinking we are picking him up as a player - could be we see something in his Managerial capabilities. SSDD.
I mean . . . franchise-changing moves don't usually happen the first week of November. it's pretty meh and probably doesn't go anywhere, but it's not the worst dumpster dive of the GMBC era.
At least this one has a little pop unlike the usual suspects he acquires. Just can’t seem to make contact regularly enough. His ISO numbers are intriguing.

Not sure whether it was mentioned here, but the Pirates re-signed Malcom Nunez to a MiL deal for next year. He would have been a FA this fall.
Let’s hope he has a big year in AAA. 2 yrs ago he was hitting the long ball and looked like our next 1stbaseman of the future
And the hot-stove has been turned on!.......and we get a dose of reality.
Gray has had 4 runs though AAA
-2021 96 wRC+
-2022 96 wRC+

He’s the AAA Rowdy Tellez.

He mashed 33 & 30 HRs in 2022 & 2023, which still yielded below average production.

Should anyone be surprised at BC claiming a light hitting middle infielder off waivers?

For the first move of the off season
