Morning Rundown: Tanner Scott signs with the Dodgers
Los Angeles Dodgers make another free agent splash
The Los Angeles Dodgers made yet another splash in the free agent market, signing the top closer available, Tanner Scott, to a five-year deal worth $72 million.
It’s a deal that comes with a $20 million signing bonus and another $21 million in deferred money.
Scott, 30, went 9-6 with 22 saves in 2024 with the Marlins and Padres. He posted a 1.75 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 72 innings pitched. He’s slowly emerged as one of the best left-handed late-inning relief pitchers in the game and has 55 saves in his career with an ERA of 3.56.
Los Angeles added right-handed pitcher Roki Sasaki earlier in the week to their rotation and now add Scott to the bullpen.
He’ll join a position group featuring Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen.
The addition of Kyle Tucker for the Chicago Cubs will slide Seiya Suzuki to the primary DH in 2025, Craig Counsell mentions during their Cubs Convention over the weekend.
Suzuki had a +3 DRS on FanGraphs while playing right field in just over 600 innings. However, his playing time was cut nearly in half from 2023 to 2024, and that was before the addition of Tucker.
In his third season with the Cubs, Suzuki posted career highs in home runs (21), stolen bases (16), wRC+ (138), and fWAR (3.6).
