Morning Rundown: Termarr Johnson Leaves Game After Hit By Pitch
The former first round pick gets hit by a pitch, pinch ran for after the fact.
There isn’t really a way around out, it’s been a rough start to Termarr Johnson’s start in Greensboro. The former first round pick has slashed just .196/.339/.391 in 13 games played since being promoted to High-A.
So the last thing you want to see is him potentially missing any time. Nothing is certain yet, but Johnson left the game Thursday night after getting hit by a pitch. The incident happened during the sixth inning, and Johnson was immediately replaced by Francisco Acuna.
While it’s been tough for Termarr, he’s shown flashes. He’s still hitting the ball hard, and his walk rate is 16.07%, and he hit a home run in three straight games.
He got off to a slow start in Bradenton as well, before turning it on as he got comfortable. One caveat thing about Johnson will be that he is always going to be one of the youngest players in whatever level he plays in.
With a June birthday, he actually begun the season as an 18-year-old, and is still a teenager playing in High-A right now. If he begins the season there next year, he will still be a teenager for the beginning part of the year.
Kyle Nicolas hasn’t walked a batter in each of his last four appearances out of the bullpen - a big step up from his start in Indianapolis, where he walks 23 batters in his first nine games (spanning 26 innings pitched).
He was always intriguing as in if he every worked it out as a starter the stuff was really good. Now, as a reliever, the stuff is still playing really well - maybe better - as he’s struck out nine batters in the last six innings without a walk.

Why is Jase Bowen still at A+ GBO? A slash of 262/339/486/824 OPS, 38 EBH incl 22 HR, 84 RBI, 22 of 26 SB for an 85% success rate, and has dropped his K Rate from 29.2% in 2022 mostly at A, to 25.2% all at A+. Oh, he is also an excellent defensive OF, playing all 3 OF positions if I am not mistaken. He will turn 23 in early Sep.
It looked like Johnson was hit in either the back of his hand or on a finger. It certainly hurt given the way he rolled around on the ground afterward. Hope there are no broken bones.
