Morning Rundown: Tigers, Royals tie their series at one, Arizona Fall League begins
Road teams win both ALDS games, Arizona Fall League begins
Both of the ALDS matchups are tied at one after the road teams won on Monday. The day started with the Detroit Tigers defeating the Cleveland Guardians 3-0.
It seemed like the game was destined to go into extra-innings tied at zero, but Kerry Carpenter delivered a three-run home run against Emmanuel Clase to put the only runs on the board.
Detroit outhit Cleveland 9-3, getting a fantastic pitching outing from Tarik Skubal, Will Vest, and Beau Brieske.
A four-run fourth inning was all the Kansas City Royals needed to even their series with the Yankees. Salvador Perez hit a home run, then Tommy Pham, Garrett Hampson, and Maikel Garcia all picked up RBI singles.
Cole Ragans struggled with his control, walking four in four innings pitched, but did strike out five.
Both series will now shift to the other teams location, with game three scheduled for Wednesday after another day off.
All four series, counting in the NL, are tied at one apiece.
The Arizona Fall League kicked off on Monday, with just one game taking place. It was the Messa Solar Sox winning the first game of the AFL schedule, 1-0, on a Max Ferguson walk-off single that scored Denzel Clarke.
Clarke went 2-4 on the night, with him and Ferguson the only players to pick up multiple hits. Jac Caglianone went 0-4 with two strikeouts for the Surprise Saguaros.
Leandro Lopez (3 IP, 3 H, 4 K) and Josh Stephan (3 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 K) were some of the top pitchers for Surprise, while Mitch Myers tossed 3.1 shutout innings for Messa.

I'd like to think I helped the Tigers. I finally turned on the game and immediately: single, single, bomb
Rockies extended Bud Black for another season. I bet they'd like some pitching to boost the club's chances for next year....
