Morning Rundown: Tucupita Marcano To Have Surgery, Lonnie White Stays Hot
Tucupita Marcano is set to have season ending surgery to repair a torn ACL.
It was news that wasn’t expected to come back good, but Wednesday we found out that Tucupita Marcano would undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL in his knee.
The infielder was hurt after awkwardly stepping on third base after trying to elude a tag in a game against the San Diego Padres.
Marcano, 23, stepped up to fill in the roster spot created when Oneil Cruz broke his ankle, playing well at times - especially on defense.
At the plate he has hit .233/.276/.356 with three home runs and five stolen bases. He was originally acquired in the Adam Frazier trade, along with Jack Suwinski and Michell Milinao.
After missing a good part of his professional career to injury, Lonnie White Jr. is on the field and showing why the Pirates went over slot to sign him away from a Penn State commitment.
White now has four extra-base hits in his last two games, with two doubles, a triple and home run.
His solo shot in the eighth inning on Wednesday turned out to be the difference, as Bradenton won 3-2. Going back to last week against St. Lucie, he now has seven hits (5 XBH) in his last 25 at-bats, also drawing six walks.
The strikeouts have still been an issue, with nine in that same span and a K% of 31% during his time in Bradenton. Considering this is the most amount of playing time he’s gotten in pro ball, it’s probably not the biggest surprise though.

Not to get down on a guy after unfortunate news, but the Bucs have swapped Marcano, Castro and Bae for Triolo, Peguero and Williams. Seems to be quite an upgrade, no?
