Take this with a grain of salt, Arizona made a fairly strong offer for a pitcher from either the pirates or white sox. "Jones, Plaadt and a young lefty from Taiwan. The other team wanted one or two more."
Direct words from a person on a golf course (pro am going on at the greenbrier)
The person works fairly close with Kendrick and usually isn't full of crap.
Well damn, thats a pretty interesting package. I guess depends how much you buy into Pfaadt and jones' respective struggles. Could either see that as two prospects with reason to be skeptical or two guys with uber talent and great ceiling. Woulda made me stop and think for sure lol
I’d want one of the main returns to be a guy who is NOT struggling like those two. Also, from the box score and updates, feels like Mitch is back to one good, one awful start. I don’t like 2019-2021 Mitch: he sucked.
The dbacks pitching coach had Pfaadt change his position on the rubber when he was called up. Might be him just getting use to an 18 inch difference going from one side of the rubber to the other. Jones has basically been hurt all year.
If it was for Keller and he's turning back to old Keller, I think I would try my luck with the package.
If the Twins release Dallas Keuchel, maybe the pirates can sign him and give him a spot in the rotation for the remainder of the year with a club option for next year, maybe two.
I wonder if he would want to come to the Pirates. May want to try and latch on with a contender. A playoff contender. Not contender for first overall pick again next year.
It's likely that, but after a couple bad seasons and doing well in triple A this year he might just want an opportunity to be a starting pitcher without the stress of a playoff run. Several of the playoff teams he would be starting depth or in a bullpen role. The pirates could offer a starting job now and a potential spot in next years rotation on a team that should have playoff expectations.
I would love the move. At least I have heard of him, he has had success, and won some things. Most of the guys the Pirates pick up are random. Not so much trades but when they sign someone off waivers, ect. I don't expect to know some 17 year old dude from the Dominican.
I think the move was made to be short-term only. They lost a pitcher and added three position players, so one of them is going back for Falter. Wouldn't be Hayes obviously, and Delay might switch with Rivas...if they plan on letting Davis catch. I'd personally leave him in right field for now, catch on the side/occasional late replacement, then go play fall and/or winter ball as a catcher to get ready for next year
This may be a dumb question but why do some people's things say substack and others don't? Is it something I have to work towards. Like a Stargell star?

When you first show up here, the site kinda leads you to establish your own substack. Then it always attaches "Writes XYZ's Substack" to your name. Evidently, some folks managed not to get fooled into doing that. I'd rather that wasn't there, because I don't write my own, I just want to write for BoD. I think Jeff deleted his, but I haven't gotten around to doing that. You don't have to have it.
It's cause they created their own personal substack, whether on purpose or accidentally. It's what I accidentally did at first when we were trying to understand how to link myself to Murphy's created page.
If I remember correctly, he hurt himself sliding into second base, can't remember the exact situation but remember it being around second. He finished out the inning running the bases, but then left and haven't seen him since. I would say that because he finished the inning, it wasn't too serious, but he's been out for a while now
I don't have any details on it, but one thing to watch with injuries now is that with the roster limits for organizations and the Pirates activating draft picks, guys will start getting put on the 60-day IL if they aren't going to play over the remaining time (just seven weeks left). As long as he doesn't get transferred to the 60-day, then he likely has a chance to return. As of right now, he's still on the 7-day.
Not to get down on a guy after unfortunate news, but the Bucs have swapped Marcano, Castro and Bae for Triolo, Peguero and Williams. Seems to be quite an upgrade, no?
Both in current performance and future potential. Would have been nice if one of those first three really stepped up to claim a job, but realistically they were probably all plan b or c level of talents
I'm giving Triolo a little longer, his power has always taken a while to show up level by level. His K rate is discouraging but at least he doesn't appear lost.
His monthly OPS at GBO in 2021: .639 .824 .905 .958 .810. And that wasn't the ballpark, as he hit much better on the road. Last year at Altoona, he had no HRs until June 12, then he hit nine the rest of the year. He had a 1.042 OPS in August.
The other thing not to forget: He had hamate surgery in spring. That can sap a hitter's power for six months or so.
I don't think we'll have a real idea about Triolo until next year. What we DO know is that he's close to Hayes' level defensively, probably can play any position, runs well (75th percentile in sprint speed) and at least tries to work the count.
I think it's best to be patient with Triolo, mostly because he barely played AAA, while returning from an injury to end last year and to start this spring. I have no problem with him being in the majors, but AAA is a level of the minors for a reason. I also wouldn't rule out Bae just yet based on what he has done. He just turned 24 last week
Feel for marcano, tough for anyone to go down with an injury like that. I dont necessarily know what his future on this team is but all we can do is hope for a solid recovery
Tough situation for Marcano. Not even sure when the actual surgery will be performed, and there's a lot of Pre-hab and Re-hab associated with it. Hopefully he will be able to return to full baseball activities in ST?
I had thought that the Pirates would try to trade more of their MI's at the deadline, but injuries to both Bae and Marcano probably had something to do with that. Oneil Cruz is going to be one half of the September MI and then we have a selection of Peguero, Bae, Marcano, Triolo, and Gonzales, all of whom have had significant time at the MLB level in 2023. Need for the off-season will be the same as it was last year - a solid CF. Need to find a trade partner needing MI's and having CF's to deal.
Nice pitching Mitch. Christ, he may need a reset.

we all have our sources...

Thought it was interesting, might have been for Cease though. If it was for Keller or Bednar it would make me ponder it, and probably go for it.
I might, but it looks like Jones’ shoulder injury last year has had pretty serious repercussions.
Didn't realize it was that serious, haven't really checked on him other than seeing he was injured. Thanks, that would probably change my position.

Twins selected him….must have read your post and the Twinkies wanted to hack you off 😁

Plus PNC plays well for lefties.

Why was Vinny Capra brought up and not Leyba or Andujar? Or for that matter, Rivas?
hope they make a 2024 baseball card for him
I think the move was made to be short-term only. They lost a pitcher and added three position players, so one of them is going back for Falter. Yep, if they would have added Andujar he can't be optioned, Capra can or possibly released. I think they option him.
It was mentioned that Rivas would be activated for Brewers series

git a brain, moran
Thanks, Colin. Or Ian?
Or Bugsy? Speaking of Bugs, he would say “ What a maroon!”
I dunno. Are you a subscriber?
i see this is where all the cool cats are these days
Was wondering if you would pop on over here or not
i've read some articles. didn't know the comment section was so bustling though!
What's up with Shalin Polanco? I'm assuming he's hurt but was it anything serious?
If I remember correctly, he hurt himself sliding into second base, can't remember the exact situation but remember it being around second. He finished out the inning running the bases, but then left and haven't seen him since. I would say that because he finished the inning, it wasn't too serious, but he's been out for a while now
Thanks! Was starting to get excited about the kid and he fell off the face of the earth. Do hope it's minor and he'll be back at it soon
I remember another Polanco hurting himself sliding into second base? Dems Vu?
I dont know if that was a slide, maybe more of a flop or a strategic fall? Still makes me shake my head

Bae’s flopping still bums me out. Triolo is headed in the same direction. Two young guys I was high on.
I'm giving Triolo a little longer, his power has always taken a while to show up level by level. His K rate is discouraging but at least he doesn't appear lost.
Yes, he's always needed adjustment time.

Yep, much better stated than my vague description lol.

Yeh, I’m hoping that it WAS the hamate sapping his power. Can’t totally give up on him and Bae…….YET! 🤓🤓
We traded Choi, Hedges and Hill. We replaced them with Delay and Hayes. Who was the third?
ham sandwich
Uhhh vinny capra?
I missed that. Who the heck is Vinny Capra? 😹😹😹
Saw someone (@Bianco599) claim that he is the head of the Wilmerding Crew 🤣🤣🤣
Vinny "The Chin" Capra. They call him the Flannel Don. Can't afford the suits that Gotti would wear.
🤣🤣🤣
Actually the return for Heineman from Toronto…..
Not worried about White’s K’s. He’ll pull a Termarr and turn it around. He’s a Penn Stater!!
Dare I say White hot? Glad to see he is putting together a little injury free streak.

Even if healthy, I doubt that the return would’ve been much for Bae or Marcano. I never thought much of Tucu, but Bae disappointed me.
