ESPN writer Dave Shoenfield proposed trade for the Pirates that would send Joey Bart and Nick Yorke to the Rays for Yandy Diaz and Pete Fairbanks. Thoughts?

I don't like it, a few of us talked about it the other day. As much as I like Yandy, PNC is not a good ballpark for him to play half his games.

Agree. Also, getting rid of Bart potentially blows another hole in the roster, as we don’t know what we are getting from Endy, and being so short on bats, I’d prefer to hang on to Yorke.

Now on to the subject of the Pirates (heh-heh) acquiring (choke) help on the free agent (hee-he-he) or trade market (BA-HA-HA-HA...).

Remember when they signed Russell Martin and everything CLICKED?

Bucs need a bat. I think Endy can play first just fine and I bet that's the plan. Watch and learn, junior... Watch and learn. This is in no way analogous to the Russell Martin deal, but it speaks to finding the right fit.

My bet is that the FO is basically going with what they got.

Reynolds-O'Cruz-York/Cook in the outfield.

Hayes-IKF-NickG-Endy around the infield.

Bart behind the plate with Endy spelling and when Endy spells, Cook comes into first.

And the rotation... Whoa Nelly!

Skenes-Jones-Keller-Falter-Ortiz-Oviedo-Bubba-Burrows-Ashcraft-Harrington

Just build a better bullpen and we're good.

Am I wrong?

Thoughts?

Prayers?

This is in response to Catch22's post about DK getting fired and trying to have sex with interns... Posted here because for some reason, I'm having a devil of a time getting a "reply" to post. IT issues here in the desert southwest sitting in a camper trailer.

Ok. This is probably gonna come out ALL wrong, but here goes...

... wait for it...

Who wouldn't wanna have sex with an intern? I mean... it might not be very PROFESSIONAL an'at... I think the problem is more like when you are SO not that guy and you're laying down a line... You know... like when a free agent is approached by the Pirates it more likely becomes a National Labor Relations issue....

...Yeah, this isn't going well...

Um... Okay. I can still save this...

... How does one TRY to have sex with an intern? What does that look like? I'm thinking a very bad episode of The Office, or maybe a very good one with the Ricky Gervais crew...

Okay. Having ruined Da Wabbit's reputation, exit our hero through the front door, stage right!

On the reply issue, I had an issue the other day when I couldn't reply or like. I logged out, logged back in and it was fine, so that's worth a try.

I had the reply issue last week.

Oh, for sure, I'd love to have sex with interns. I think it was the manner of how DK went about it...Creepy stuff. Like asking interns to have threesomes with him and his wife or asking interns to watch him have sex with his wife.

Ive never liked DK but that was more because I dont like his content but man now my opinion sinks lower than I thought possible. Lotta shitty people out there

...um... well...

Yeah, sounds like a dude needs to work on his game a bit. Send him down to AAA for a bit to ... ahem... hammer things out?

yeesh

Sounds like he's socially awkward.

When you see the Cubs giving $29 million to Matt Boyd, who has averaged 12 appearances a season over the past 4 years, you realize how broken the economics of baseball are.

I hope the Pirates FO gives us something exciting to talk about over the next week other than just looking forward to the draft lottery.

Guessing the owner has given the FO a very small budget.

I'm not expecting much at all this off-season. They're going to look at internal improvements and hope for the best.

Given some of the recent signings (Montas and Boyd), I think that could stir up some talks for Pirates starters.

Yeah, trades are about all I expect to see from the Pirates this off season.

Soto really seems to be tying up the market. Not many moves, or even rumors, at all.

Pitching market has been moving. Still some big names out there, but Snell signing and some second (and even third) tier starters signing might pick things up even more.

We need some bats to start moving though. Either that or try to jump the market. But we might not have a ton of funds available. I saw DK reported that the payroll is going to be $100 million, which in theory leaves room for a splash if they spread it around. Who knows if that figure is right though.

Expand full comment

Yeah, only thing is that the most likely bats to sign right now would probably be either the big hitters (pun intended) like a Soto, Adames, or Bregman, or the bottom of the barrel like a Rizzo, or similar to those who already have: Stallings, Newman, or Farmer. Those are the two markets that the Pirates are not involved in (the Soto's) and shouldn't be (Rizzo).

To me, I feel like it may actually show some signs of seeking closer to the mid-tier if it takes them a while till the bats start dropping. That is unless there is someone they're dead-set on, and who'd have similar interest in completing something now. The only bats that may take a little longer, that the Pirates also won't be involved in, are the ones with QO's attached.

If you know anything about DK, he is full of shit and likes to make things up related to the Pirates.

I’m skeptical of the figure which is why I added in the “who knows if the figure is correct.”

He insisted Cherington had money to spend last year and was refusing, which I found ridiculous on its face, and apparently wasn’t true.

He also claimed NH tried to get him fired, which was also false.

He also attempted to have sex with interns, which is fact.

We need 2 more solid hitters to go with Cruz and BR

Two full months since the Pirates 2024 season ended with the same record we had in 2023, but much further out of the Playoff picture. Although we added the Rookie of the Year and 3rd in the Cy Young SP Paul Skenes, Rookie SP Jared Jones who had a VG year, and Oneil Cruz returned from injury to lead the offense, we lost ground. Our Manager of the past 5 years, Derek Shelton, has a .415 Winning Percentage overall, and given 3 additional key players for the 2024 season, he managed to fall further back from the teams who made the playoffs!

What does this management group and ownership see that would indicate things will get any better with this guy as the Manager? Adding 3 very impactful players and going backwards! Might just be a wrong place at the wrong time for him, but doing nothing is a pitiful response by this front office.
