My Cardinal friend said his Cardinals are the only team that could lose a 41 year old starter(Wainwright), but yet have an older rotation than the year before. (adding a 34, 36 and 36 year old.)
Looks like the Cardinals are going to sign Gray to join Lynn and Gibson in their remake of their rotation. They're being aggressive and time will tell if they're making good decisions but the moves look good to me. Meanwhile, on Federal Street...
Lynn + Gibson + Gray = $58 million in 2024. This is exactly what the Pirates need to add to their rotation, 1 TOR SP to multiyear deal + 2 mid rotation rentals.
Problem is we all know the Bucs are working with $30-40 million max this winter, for their entire FA budget. Can GMBC get creative enough to fill the holes at 1/2 price? I dunno...
Love Sonny Gray. Pounded the table hard for him after things soured for him In pinstripes, but nobody on Federal St. heard me. Bums me out the Cards landed him.
As for Pirates, I’m holding out hope they will convince ERod to sign on the dotted line. He’d be a better acquisition than any of the three guys the Cards have signed to fill out their rotation.
I know this won't happen.... but until we can put the 3 injured pitchers on the IL... It'd be super cool if Cutch signed a $8M or whatever MINOR league deal, with the understanding that he won't spend a day in the minors.
We're seriously running out of 40 man spots and there aren't as many obvious cuts left (Maybe Hatch?). Also there are several intriguing arms available in the Rule 5.
Erod, severino, lugo, VV is my dream and its intact (for now)

wonder if they´d eat some salary in a Matz or Mikolas trade?
I think that's their 5-man rotation...
Gray 5.3 fWAR, 2.83 FIP
Mikolas 3.1 fWAR 4.27 FIP
Gibson 2.6 FWAR 4.13 FIP
Lynn 0.5 fWAR 5.53 FIP
Matz 2.0 fWAR 3.75 FIP
Probably a rotation that can win some regular season games, but not one that would do well in the post-season.
Maybe with the older rotation, should they think about a 6 man rotation? It would help with recovery time.
Probably beats . . .

I think they would for Matz in a heartbeat. There is a good Matz and a bad Matz. The Cardinals got the bad Matz.
Even though, I prefer Mikolas, $18m a year for the next 2 years is still too high imo to think they will eat enough to make it a bargain.
I’m guessing the only thing we’ll be able to look forward to is the draft lottery in eight days. Good times.
Too bad we can’t post pictures here, esp. from Monty Python. Cherington would be Sir Not-Appearing-in-this-Offseason.
Be patient, we'll have Alex Wood signed in the coming weeks.
Don't forget the rule 5 draft, we're bound to find our missing pieces there!

Could they land Imanaga or ERod for 4/$75? A big time lefty would look real nice at PNC
I’ll be highly disappointed if they don’t get a desirable lefty on a multi year deal.
I’m expecting to be highly disappointed.
We can only dare to dream, but these are 2 guys that they should consider seriously.
Could? Yes. Will? Nope.
we clubbed him last august
