Time to place Taylor and Grandal on waivers. As bad as they’ve been, a competitive team may find value in a backup catcher/late inning replacement center fielder. Move them for anything you can get and make room on the 40-man for Cook/Yorke. Call up Delay to back up Bart.
With other deadline moves adding yorke and cook, looks like some other holes have the chance to be plugged for league minimum too. Unfortunately, I dont know that we had the advanced hitting prospects that the marlins understandably were looking for
Looking forward to watching a good pitching matchup tonight, especially getting to see Skenes.
In general, I hope they do a complete 180 and rip off something like a 12-3 stretch. If not that, though, the second best outcome might be to continue to struggle down the stretch so that significant changes are made. So here's to one extreme or the other, but hopefully the former.
I feel the same, would love to add a few weeks of really good ball to end the season but im worried if that happens then we wont get the firings/org shakeup that we desperately need
Yeah...I don't personally want to see a continued plummet into the abyss as a fan, because it just sucks to witness...but I fear you are correct that any rebound would validate the obviously terrible philosophy and execution of this front office and coaching staff.
2) Nick Yorke and Billy Cook are smashing. Obviously Cook won't have a 1.086 OPS forever and Yorke won't with his skyhigh babip, and Yorke only being hitless in 1 game for the Pirates isn't sustainable. But these two moves give me a bit of hope. While our development is stinking right now, if we can identify these types of under appreciated guys that would be a nice silver lining.
3) Burrows performing ok is nice. 2 strike outs is meh. But that AAA rotation with him, Ashcraft, Harrington, Bubba is looking good for 25+ (and add in Oviedo). If we are able to find gems like above #2 point, that could be a solid re-tooling to get some offensive personnel in the system.
I do not think either was underappreciated by the teams they came from, they were just hopelessly blocked from having a decent chance to be promoted with the clubs they came from. But they have both hit the ground running and are still at AAA - what is it we wanted out of these guys when we made the trades?
Just for S & G, has anyone realized that the Pirates (56 Wins) are only 4 Wins ahead of the Oakland Athletics (52 Wins). Quick, name a Starting Pitcher for Oakland other than Osvaldo Bido?
I guess its underappreciated from a national sense.
But I mean, the Red Sox invested a 1st round pick in Nick Yorke, and are currently running out 26 year old David Hamilton, and 26 yaer old Nick Sogard as their 2b guy who Yorke has outhit while on the same minor league team. I'm not sure he is hopelessly blocked. (Unless you go by saying Vaughn Grissom is their 2b going forward). There were definite 40 man roster considerations, eventual rule 5 too I'm sure. Bottom line though is I am pleasantly surprised on the new offensive blood we brought in from the minors.
Since the trade at the deadline for second baseman Nick Yorke, he is making a habit of multi-hit games at AAA, and his name also seems to appear in the Top Exit Velocity column often. Is anyone in the front office watching? Billy Cook is also continuing to hit for power since joining AAA Indy. Not that our MLB team needs any hitters
AAA Relievers Plassmeyer and Feigl combined for 5.1 IP, 4H, 1R,1BB/11K, and you touched on the work of Ford and Dombkowski at AA. If Dombkowski can find a way to lower his number of walks, he could be in the RP mix for the Pirates next year. Greiber Mendez, 20, at A also with a solid line out of the BP - 3 IP, 1H, 1R, 1BB/5K.
Nice HR by Jase Bowen in the bottom of the 9th to win it for Altoona. I had hoped he could have a big year and put himself in consideration for the CF job for the Pirates, but that 23 HR power at GBO did not carry over to AA. Four of the Top 5 Exit Velocity hitters last night are in A at Bradenton. Also nice to see Tampa Bay has not lost their touch. The kid who pitched for their A+ ballclub, and shut down the GBO offense last night, 22 year old Brody Hopkins, was part of the return from the Mariners for Randy Arozarena. A 6th Rounder in 2023 out of Winthrop.
Mendez was impressive. Throws from a 3/4 angle, everything comes in low, good movement. The run scored after he left. Clevari Tejada replaced him and blew up the game. Same thing happened the night before when Peyton Stumbo replaced Kennedy.
Thank you, I appreciate it. Not trying to get players run off, but I think Yorke and Cook could add something to the lineup at 2B and CF/RF. We need some changes now.

Don’t understand what they are waiting for?
Jazz Chisholm has been worth 1.1 fWAR in 14 games, with 7 HRs and plus defense. I find it hilarious that a slew of posters in here didn't want him.
Only making 2.65M this season, but I'm guessing Bob balked at the arb eligible for next season.
Man, he would've made the team better, and he can play all over the diamond.
And once again he's hurt. No thanks! Yankees can keep their clown 🤡

I'm guessing Davis + would've sealed the deal.
Yeah youre probably right, kinda forgot about him as a trade chip

We have been some of the most extreme the last two years …. So maybe!
When do we start tracking litter percentages
Don't know why I keep clicking around in vain for news that isn't going to come. The derangement of being a Pirates fan, I suppose.
What are you looking for? Happy to jump on the hope for no real reason train lol
Firings I think are the last best hope this season. Firings and healthy ligaments.
I feel the same, would love to add a few weeks of really good ball to end the season but im worried if that happens then we wont get the firings/org shakeup that we desperately need

It's good to fail fast. That's the worst thing about Cherington. He fails _slowly_.
The HR Diego hit off Burrows was absolutely crushed.
Just got to listen to the pod for this week, and wanted to say well done gents! That was a good listen for sure
1) Pirates didn't lose yesterday!

The annual migration of Beau Sulser back to the pirates organization came a little later this year. Last year he flapped back to Altoona in late June.
Nice gesture from the Pirates.
I’ve heard the 4th times a charm.
Watched a little of Burrows last night...Man, talk about downhill plane.

Idk why I was expecting something else, but lol

:) Just some morning humor for grumpy ol' C22
Well, I presume we're talking about the circus that is the ol' Buccos
That's all we ever get. Clowns to the left and jokers to the right.

Per usual, good stuff, Mel.

yes sir and I agree.
