What happened to Siani and Bowen? Are they injured or did they just forget that they have to hit?

FCL Bucs won again today. They're 10-5.

Some of their hitters seem to be too much for the pitching at that level. Severino hit #4 today, tied for the league lead, and has an OPS of 1.190. Yordany DLS has an OPS of .987. Richard Ramirez, 18yo C I'm liking more and more, hit his first HR and has an OPS of .961. And they've got other guys hitting well.

Of course, they could all totally crap out at the next level. Severino is striking out a ton. YDLS already struggled at Bradenton last year. I'm more and more convinced that leaving a guy at a level he can already dominate doesn't do anything to ready him for the next level, maybe even makes him LESS ready by making him dependent on the weaknesses he's finding in the opposition at the lower level. But I guess we'll see. Some of these guys need to move up. In the FCL, the pitcher's always going to make a mistake here and there and these guys are going to punish those mistakes.

I still like players having success and gaining confidence at each level before moving up. I have no idea what really goes on, but it seems like teams should have more consistent instruction at each level. If a coach sees something is working at a lower level but knows that approach won't work at a higher level...... they need to squash it or at least work with the player on that.

Good to see Cimillo hitting. I saw him occasionally at Bradenton after he was drafted. And I mean occasionally—he seldom played, had to hit his way into more time and they didn’t warm up to him quickly. Good on him.

Much as Rowdy has taken over first in Pittsburgh. Jeez - can't the Pirates just dump this guy.

I would love for someone, anyone, to emerge as a legit 1st base prospect. Cimillo would be great but the negatives you list don’t give me much hope. Malcolm Nunez is the guy I would love to see emerge. He has been OK at AAA, but so far, he hasn’t indicated he is a legit option who could be a producer at the major league level.

I’m cautiously optimistic about Nunez. I think he’s progressively gotten better each year and is on pace to surpass his offensive output from last season relatively soon. Obviously with his defensive limitations, he’s going to have to tear the cover off the ball to stick in the majors, but he’s still young.

But of course, I was a big Mason Martin fan…

Nunez has been playing mostly at third this year with Lamb at first but is still a first baseman in my mind. Gorski’s played first a handful of games too and has better numbers than Nunez, but he’s 26 y/o now and would need to really catch fire for BC to notice him.

The Pirates have no first basemen nor, even more concerning in my thinking, outfielders in the system until you get to White at A+ so the outlook for the two most needed MLB positions is not good. Cherington’s history of waiting to grab anyone no one else wants instead of seeking out quality players in free agency or via trades doesn’t provide much hope either. Maybe the draft if their lucky and don’t blow it?

Malcom's 23 homers as a 21 year old in the minors makes you think he could be the power hitter we need. His 6 homers and .270 average in Indy as you is just ok.

Big caveat on the 23 HR year — he hit 17 before the trade. All but one came in his home park, which was a big HR park.

16 of 17 homers at home says something. I know my Cardinal fans were upset they let Nunez go, so maybe I am just hoping he does well.
