Altoona Rotation in 2024 - Anthony Solometo, Paul Skenes, Thomas Harrington, Bubba Chandler, Braxton Ashcraft. I was thinking Po Yu Chen as a possible 6th.
And, when Adam Frazier was traded, we all remember Jack Suwinski and Tucapita Marcano as 2 of the players coming from San Diego. The 3rd was a wild card named Michell Miliano who threw 44.1 innings of RP at A+ this year and earned a promotion to AA where he has thrown 16.1 innings in relief with an excellent ERA of 2.70 even though the Walks/K's numbers are a little off. According to FG, the Pirates overall pitching is 18th in 2023 compared to 24th in 2022. A good part of that is that our RP's were 24th in 2022 and are currently 9th in 2023!
Quinn Priester threw a very nice game, but when will the Pirates start to be concerned over the number of innings he is throwing at age 22. Right at 137 IP now, which is not far from what Mitch Keller threw last year (159 IP) as a 3 year MLB veteran at age 26. Even though the number of innings should already be a concern, he was "allowed" to throw 5.2 innings and 100 pitches last night.
The news that he has been shut down for the year should be out soon, but why not a sort of "cooling off" period of 3 innings/50 pitches in 2 separate starts instead of almost 6 innings/100 pitches in one meaningless game?
He's hitting very well and his defense behind the plate is strong - 1 error, 6 PB's. Signed out of Venezuela, but lists Minneapolis as his place of birth - that may be a story for another day.
Great to see some real progress in both his approach and results. Would love to see him continue to build strength and increase that max EV if he wants to ever have a chance at a real power tool

Good stuff Anthony. Never have too much Pitching or Catching. Light hitting Middle Infielders…that’s a whole nutha thing.
Alfonzo is a nice "out-of-nowhere" prospect
