i say keep going

Joe, Alika, Hatch, Falter, Jackson and Stratton can all go with them

Eh, i think joe and a few of those arms are probably worth keeping in the system for depth or for injury purposes

Rivas claimed by Cleveland. Bolton and Capra have new teams as well. Seattle gave cash consideration for Bolton, Milwaukee claimed Capra.

Meh, that's all ok. Hopefully not having rivas reinforces that we will scoop some 1B help this offseason

bmcferren's avatar

Good . I was tired of seeing all three of them

WTM's avatar

Well, that didn't take long.

Too bad for Bolton. If he'd gone to Tampa, he'd win 15 next year.

Melkel's avatar

Yep, although Seattle has developed some pretty good arms lately with a lesser chance of losing a year by being in Tampa via surgery.

60 day IL deadline is today? Burbaker, Oneil, Perdomo back on the 40 man by today means three more guys get cut

Capra, Hatch and Rivas be gone with yinz

Expand full comment
WTM's avatar

Plus, gotta make room for Jordy.

The 60-day guys don’t have to be activated until 11/6. That’s the day for a whole lot of stuff.

Expand full comment
bmcferren's avatar

was that a typo for Yordany?

Expand full comment
WTM's avatar

Nope. They’ll sign Jordy to be a super UT guy so Triolo can go back to AAA for more seasoning. By mid-April Jordy will be playing first every day and batting cleanup.

then we´ll trade him to the rangers and he´ll win a world series

trade winds are blowing

Padres claim Tucupita

does that mean they now have to work out a trade or it was outright waivers?

I had him penciled in as Indy´s starting second baseman

Who is next on the plank? Alika back to tampa?

Expand full comment
Melkel's avatar

Alika is fairly safe, only guy on the 40 man that can definitely handle shortstop at a high level until Cruz is 100% healthy. Wish he could hit a little.

Gotta give BC credit when its due but draft looks promising if either Gonzales or Jones works out. Those 6 picks essentially now have translated to:

1 Gonzales (7)

1B Mlodzinski (31)

2 Jones (44)

3 Connor Joe (79)

4A Jackson Wolf (108)*

4B Estuar Suero (108)*

* via Padres along w/ Rich Hill

My relative disappointment in the 2020 draft class is tempered by the fact that the players I wanted them to take also stink. Baseball is hard.

If they can get an extra grade of command out of Mlod then I think he turns into a real bullpen weapon.

Funny draft. The last three picks likely didn’t produce anything directly, but two of them indirectly resulted in a solid bench player in Joe (assuming Shelton figures out that’s what Joe is), and (in combination with Hill) a possible middle reliever and a low-level lottery ticket.

If Shelton would use Joe properly his numbers would look very good. Definitely don't think Shelton will use him correctly, I wonder if Cleveland would be up for a trade Joe for Quantrill.

Arky Wags's avatar

I don’t think Quantrill looks like a whole lot. Rapidly decreasing K rates and walk rates going the wrong way. He doesn’t miss enough bats. His ERA looks like it was kept in check the previous two years because of an abnormally

I’m not opposed to trading Joe for an arm per se. But I’d aim for someone else.

Melkel's avatar

He isn't much but don't think they could get much more for Joe as far as a starting pitcher goes. Joe could be more valuable to the team if he's used properly, just don't think that'll happen. Can you think of any other pitching targets, only others I can think of wouldn't trade for Joe.

Expand full comment
Arky Wags's avatar

You’re right, they wouldn’t get much for Joe alone. If they want something substantial, he’d have to be packaged.

Sticking with Cleveland, I’d look at Curry. Similar numbers to Quantrill, but three years younger.

Regarding Joe, for all the handwringing about him being used incorrectly, he wasn’t THAT bad against righties. Certainly not as bad as Jack against lefties. And some of him being used in that manner had to do with injuries to other players. As they integrate more long-term solutions on the position player side, I think his appearances against righties will decrease.

Melkel's avatar

I agree on Joe against RHP, he just became more of an everyday player instead of a platoon against lefties that would get 1 or 2 starts against right handed pitching a week. He's definitely a quality depth piece on the 26 man roster.

I am worried mlod is going to hugely regress next year without some significant changes in the offseason. Nicky sticks is probably best used as trade bait, which would make the 2020 class into some veteran supplements rather than a whole lot of first hand production

Make him 8th inning guy, and Holderman becomes the new Jared Hughes

AdministrativeSky236's avatar

Expand full comment
NolaJeffy(BnP)'s avatar

I think there's still upside with his stuff. Like NMR mentioned above, a step up in command and I think he could be a real backend piece.

Speaking of 2020 draft picks, Nicolas (Miami) still has some potential. Other than his disastrous debut against the Cubs, he had a decent first taste in the Bigs.

NolaJeffy(BnP)'s avatar

He's got some fantastic advanced metrics. I think there's a chance that the bullpen in 2024 could be the Pirates biggest asset.
