I'm way late to this party, but for any of you older hockey fans out there this reminds me of when the Pens inimitable GM of the 70's, Baz Bastien, traded Pierre Larouche to the Canadiens.
He thought he was getting Steve Shutt, hall of fame LW and Guy Lafleur's linemate, back in the trade but actually but actually got middling prospect Rod Schutt...
Just to clarify in case anyone is confused. The Pirates didn't make a mistake here, some intern at MLB made the mistake entering the transaction into the system. I just checked in on it because it didn't make sense to me. Nothing against Camden Sanders, but he isn't a legit pro player at this time. Maybe after 3-4 years of college at Niagara University he will get a shot, but he wasn't even among the best 30 prospects in Canada who went undrafted this year.
Sorry John....I didn't mean to imply that anyone on the Pirates screwed up.....it just reminded me of the whole Steve Shutt/Rod Schutt fiasco from the 70's with the Pens...
Leave it to the Pirates to screw this up - how can an MLB group of executives/admin personnel get something so wrong. Sign a 28 year old journeyman AAA reliever, and announce the signing of a 19 year old CF?
They didn't announce anything. It's a rather easy mix-up. Camden Sanders is in the MLB datatbase because he was draft eligible this year. I assume the intern in change of posting transaction, just clicked the wrong Cam Sanders. In fact, the person I talked to in the FO didn't know about the wrong player listed in the transactions until I mentioned it.
Are we sure about Horwitz/Horowitz or Daniel vs. Andrew McCutchen? Maybe we sign Austin Hays and put him at 3b so we can have Hayes/Hays split. One of George Foreman's sons anybody?
Honestly, I'd rather have an undrafted OF than the kind of bullpen sludge they're signing. Simply an embarrassment!
Camden Sanders was draft eligible this year, so that's why he was in the MLB database. Whoever is the intern in charge of posting transactions just clicked the wrong name. I only checked on it because it would be odd if an NDFA signed now and he was assigned to Indianapolis. He wasn't exactly rated high either. The signing didn't make sense, so I talked to someone in the FO and found out the correct player.
I shared the front office recent hires in yesterday's morning article. Not all of them, but the most interesting ones in my mind. There will be more for the minor league coaches
This bullpen fodder that they continue to claim (or acquire) on the 40 man roster or sign to minor league deals only steals innings from guys that might actually develop. Their stats are almost uniformly terrible. They aren't even good AAA pitchers. What a waste.
You really cannot have enough AAA pitching depth in baseball today. Signing a slew of career AAA pitchers to minor-league deals is pretty much standard operating procedure for a baseball front office today. Nothing to see here (at least so far as the minor-league deals are concerned... now putting all these schlepps on the 40-man... another story).

Cam is slated to make $770k/$150k if the contract is purchased

Thanks for the update, and having the ear of someone in the Front Office. Any other Front Office information available?

Does it really surprise you,MB?
This is far less exciting news.
These were my exact words to John when he sent this to me
I think I'd rather have Camden ....
Hey, at least he has made it to AAA, that’s something.
Good grief. Back to Arson Judge.
