Whether this approach or something else, I'm really longing for the team to do something outside the box, even way outside, to maximize the production of the young arms they've got.
I liked it for imagination. However, doing this would automatically and immediately lower the value of both Falter and Oviedo. Keep them in the Rotation through ST and try to make a trade involving them for a need. By then we will know if Suwinski has a shot, or if Cook, Yorke, or Peguero have a shot, and hopefully we have seen ERod and about 2 or 3 weeks of Horwitz. On the pitching side we will have seen Chandler, Harrington, and Barco also.
Yes, like drawing it up in the dirt at the playground, but that could pay dividends. We also want to see if some AL playoff contenders are in dire need of SP's to start the season. Stranger things have happened and the Pirates can have guys like Ashcraft, Burrows, Falter and Oviedo ready to go!
Look at it this way -- If Harrington succeeds, what will that do to his value, both on his own terms and relative to Falter/Oviedo? To say nothing of Bubba.
Yes, using the SP depth at the end of ST when injury has left a contender short of SPs is a good way to go. With any luck at all, it will be the Orioles panicking, and we can turn a SP+Pham+low-level prospect into an LHH OFer with pop (Kerjstad (sp?)).
mostly because he managed to run a higher k-rate in high-A than Bubba in spite of *looking* like the most bland soft-tosser i've ever seen. but you're probably right that i'm also biased toward him being a rare lefty this club might actually develop.
what if they broke camp with
Skenes
Keller
Jones
Harrington
Bubba
Move Falter into long relief and see how Oviedo plays as a multi-inning monster.
Imagine having the best 5 arms in the rotation. Crazy talk!

No Horowitz for ST and probably until June.

These are all must see TV prospects, but somehow Barco interests me the most!
He's the most milquetoast #4 starter mold I've ever seen and yet I'm weirdly compelled to agree.
Is it because he’s probably the best chance prospect lefty we have?

Like for the use of milquetoast
His left handedness does add to the interest.
