The good news is: Pirates steal an IFA from Dodgers.

The bad news is: Pirates pay double the amount Dodgers promised to a prospect not in top 50.

Also they didn’t pay double…the paid an extra 61%

The MLBTR article mentions Pirates are paying 1.8mm to him, 900K more than Dodgers.

You do the math.

Where did it say the dodgers had a 900,000 agreement? The only number reported by Romero was 1.1 mil…you do the math

As I mentioned in the other thread, int’l top prospect lists have significant weaknesses. I’m more impressed that this was the Dodgers’ top guy.

I'd like to see an article about RF. I'm disappointed that the Pirates are not in on anyone. It's like they're waiting until everyone signs somewhere else so they can say, "We tried, but everyone asked for too much, and now there's no one left."

They have assets to trade, and could match-up with a team somewhere, I'm certain. I suppose it will be a slew of last minute signings, again, like it was last ST and TD?

I agree on the future fWAR on Jones and Mlod getting better. Time will tell on Gonzales. He has the pedigree, but can he stay on top of those breaking balls? If he does, then he's the Pirates starting 2B, regardless of the ML talent they purchase - because he'll come cheaper.

If the Pirates signed Pete Alonso to 5 years and $125M as projected and front loaded it a little, they could operate the next several years with a payroll of about $110M. And they won’t.

Thinking if the the Pirates offered such a deal, Pete and agent Scott would both have a hearty laugh before they hung up the phone on Cherington.

It’s just a study in frustration to discuss top tier, or even middle tier, FA’s. As sure as the sun sets in the west, Bob Nutting refuses to sign those type players.

That's the aggravating thing with this org. I get not being able to go after the top tier guys, but there's no reason besides Bob's cheapness that they can't sign middle tier players. Zero effort again this off season and this team isn't any better.
