No real concerns with the major leaguers. I have Contreras in my rotation in ink until he proves otherwise but we desperately need to sign a genuine, good, big money starting pitcher. First time in 10 years I have felt we are that one player away. I send O’Neill Cruz a first baseman’s mitt along with a get well bouquet this off-season. I see Triolo or Ke over llover at short. Tank will be fine in right field now that he has actually played the position a few games. Playoffs in ‘24 baby!
It all depends upon which Roansy Contreras shows up for ST, and how guys like Bido, Ortiz, and Jones look in comparison. My Rotation breaking Camp would be Keller, Oviedo, Priester, and Jones, and a BP Start (Ortiz, Bido, Contreras, Falter). Hope to have BRU back by mid-June. Lots of quality SP's, multi-inning Relievers available at the trading deadline
Has not worked lately, but I think the Pirates have enough pitching at the MLB level and AAA/AA to hang in without having to throw money away on FA SP's. Priester is already at the MLB level for 8 Starts, 50 IP in 2023, and Jared Jones finished 2023 with 15 Starts at AAA, 82 IP, 10.87/3.73 K/BB/9, an ERA of 4.72, but an excellent FIP of 3.98!
Do we send Jared Jones back to AAA? Getting to AAA as a 21 year old is remarkable for a HS Draftee in 2020 - he not only got there, but did very well at the AAA level last year. The Pirates challenged him with aggressive promotions that he earned with his hard work and skillset - this is not the time to get conservative.
Priester was also awful when he started at MLB. How can you, with a straight face, hand him a starting job in the rotation after he got pounded routinely? Jones, maybe...but he’ll likely be on an innings limit.
Here’s a good rule of thumb on the harsh reality of internally grown arms. For every three hotshot pitching prospects, one will be productive, one will be perpetually injured, and one will be frustrating. There is nothing about this group that indicates they’re going to buck the trend.
Just off the top of my head, I think Triolo hits RHP's pretty well. I liked Vogie when he was here, but I think this team has moved well beyond that stage of rebuilding. First base also fits Connor Joe and others.
I'm glad he was able to make it all year on the active roster. Depending on his results and or command, he could stick on the active roster or go back and forth to Indy. Having a hard throwing lefty with options is tremendously valuable.
The lack of options all but guarantees this course for Roansy
1) AAA rotation
2) ML rotation if he looks like old Roansy
3) ML bullpen if he scuffles in the rotation
4) DFA or traded if he doesn't survive bullpen
Also since they adore him as a person they could use some rehab stints to try to right him if he struggles

We can only dream..
Have to believe Roansy is a better than 50% bet to be DFA’d at some point early next year. If and when it happens, it will be a sad day.
From all of us hoping he could be at the top of the rotation with Keller to DFA in less than a year.. oof
I´m over it
what exactly did we expect in exchange for a two time tommy john over draft?
the real tragedy is not drafting manny machado
we would have gone to the WS sometime between 2013 and 2015 if we had
instead we went on the rag with mercer
Let bygones be bygones. That ship sailed, or is it sunk?, long ago.

That’s a pretty poor rotation. Can I ask why the fascination with internal only arms? Cause that don’t work, pal.

I’m with Arky on this one. They desperately need a SP, preferably a LHSP, who will demand a multi-year deal.
Great info and breakdown as always Ethan!
anybody here interested in bringing back vogelbach to platoon with triolo?

No
Nah he doesnt play the field really, otherwise dont hate the move for value on the cheap. Rather trade for Pasquatch from KC
Wow, impressive number crunching.
The Bucs are in good shape to add payroll. No need to have rentals in the starting lineup.
Hernandez is a lock to make the team next year? or he has things to work on in AAA?

My guess is that he will be in AAA because he has options and will be one of the first names up in case of injury
