German’s third: PO FO GO. Bench wanted 4 outs but I think the O’s were tired of it. Moves the ball all around and changes speeds constantly. Too much for AA guys.
One possibility: German has a lot of ML experience. The Pirates may want him closer to home, figuring he can get tuned up at Altoona as easily as anywhere. Same caveat: the off-field stuff is their problem to figure out.
That seems to be a popular opinion. I heard Jonathon Mayo on MLB Network say on their top 100 broadcast it would be before the end of May and Dan Dowd on the network say after the Spring Breakout game it would be before Memorial Day. Jason Mackey predicted on a podcast this week it would be mid to late May and if they were concerned with Super 2 they could do with what they did with Roansy and shut him down for a couple of weeks around the AS game. It could be like Gerrit Cole and a home against SF in late May.
The signing of these 2 is why I was more comfortable if they DFA'd Falter or some of the other older rotation depth candidates (like losing Anderson). With normal build up etc, I felt comfortable by mid April there would be 2 legitimate additions to the SP depth that certainly seem better than the earlier signed candidates and quite possibly better than the backend rotation candidates. Given the generally speaking minimal $ investment in Gonzales, I wonder how long his leash will be if he Falters (yep).
Imagine being so mentally debilitated that you can watch Jared Jones make the Opening Day roster and *still* believe a prospect with 7 professional innings to his name is being held down to manipulate service time.
First Nutting is cheap but not every decision is because of that (supporting NMR's comment). To me the basic debate on the 7 professional innings prospect is a choice that somebody stated earlier on some site (maybe here). Given current facts (no assumed extension etc, likely TJ 'sometime', borderline contention at best this year) do we want 6 guaranteed years of this prospect with the first year(this year) having innings limits or do we want 6 2/3 seasons(extending control by one year) with the 2/3 being this year and then 6 years of no limits? IMO I prefer the 6 2/3. Call it service time manipulation or getting him used to pitching every 5 days.. I stand by my choice.
You don’t have to keep him in AAA until July to get an extra near-full-season before free agency. A couple weeks does that. The Kris Bryant case established that definitively. I don’t know why so many fans conflate the super two and FA rules. I’d probably start Skenes in AAA, but if he’s doing well and still there past the s2 date, that’s 100% about money.
Oh, and Skenes threw more innings last year than Jared Jones, so that doesn’t work too well as an explanation.
I don't disagree with most of your response even if some of my FA / S2 rules were not spot on. When we get to that stage: Past S2 AND performing at a level that deserves promotion (certainly hope so, but things happen), then this debates variables change. But my entry to this debate was your take that the sending him to AAA was Nutting $ based which at this point in time I disagreed. Him not starting on the MLB roster IMO is a wise decision for 'asset' mgmt reasons not Nutting $.
He’s like a forgotten guy. I’ve seen a fair number of MiL exhibitions with upper level players. Seen lots of Beer, Joe Perez, Gorski, Alcantara, etc. Hardly seen Nunez at all.
Brad Case K’s the side.
Sidearm Case?
Yep, very low angle.

I think it was Passan on McAfee yesterday saying he believes Skenes will be pitching Pittsburgh in May.

Hope he’s right.
What’s up with German?
Cultural strife over immigration and disastrous energy policy leading to economic stagnation.
No idea. Maybe not ready yet? Lauer pitched in an exhibition game right away. Afaik, German hasn’t gone past live BP.
Well, German is pitching in the AA exhibition right now.
Weird motion. Starts off directly facing the plate, if nobody is on base.
K 1B GIDP. Lot of swings and misses on CU and CH,
Was he a splitter guy? Or true change?
Pretty sure just a CH. Splitter’s usually harder, for one thing.
He’s back for a third inning, fwiw.
And K GO GO PO. First 3 went so quickly they got 4 outs.
Probably no challenge vs AA hitters.
Lauer and German are by far the most interesting SP recovery cases they have, although the off-field stuff is pretty worrisome.

The Pirates have truly rotted our brains.
You have to be seriously mentally debilitated to fail to understand that Skenes can't be compared to any current prospect.
lol why do you debase yourself like this.
Very insightful.
says the guy who writes the same boring tropes day after day.
AI chatbot could write Wilbur pieces and nobody would know at this point. The same thing, over and over, in every situation.

Nobody is arguing that!
That's also nowhere close to what you actually wrote.
Because you cannot help yourself.
Hammer>nail.
My favorite 2023 Liover Peguero stat:
He chased at an above average rate, swung at strikes at an above average rate, and *took* strikes at an above average rate.
LOL
Just up there wingin' it.
At an above average rate
Here for the malcolm nunez redemption

Interesting. Discipline or injury?
Perez seems mildly interesting and I'm not ready to give up on Gorski given his reputation as a defender, but otherwise I want to see Nunez playing.
Gorski's a year away from learning Japanese and becoming a minor culture icon.
