He was on the 60-day IL, yes, but the MiL one. He was optioned before the season, then put on said IL, meaning he was on optional assignment while on the IL.
First, it would be a Top-2 finish, not only winning. If that happens, it rounds up to 1.000, so he gets credited for a full year despite not actually accruing the service.
I'll be happy for Skenes and he deserves it, but it's a potential huge hit to the Pirates' chances in 2030. It's only a bit of hyperbole to say that Skenes finishing top 2 in ROY will cost us a realistic chance at a championship in 2030.
Of course this can be rectified by Nutting/Cherington extending Skenes to buy back that year.
I had the same reaction. That’s the lamest Rule 5 eligible contingent I can remember. And in a way I say, “Thank goodness!”, because it will save us all a ton of time in this forum.
Without seeing Ethan's full list, Bidois is the one off top of my head who MAYYYYYBE could get consideration to be selected based off of metrics. Given Pirates recent history, the list that might matter most is the second portion of Rule 5
Lol well I guess, what are the rules pertaining to adding a guy, such as, I feel as though you've said if someone is added they have to be carried till spring.
last shots for Suwinski and Peggy this year
Burrows only has one option left and Mlodzinski has 2? Seems odd...
How come? After his selection last season, Mlodzinski was never optioned, so he didn't use one last year, while Burrows did in both 23 and 24.
Wasn't Burrows on the 60 day DL all season in 2023? When he was taken off after the season, was that considered an option?

The pirates should be able to get an extra option on Burrows for the time missed do to injury. You would know better than me.
I haven't checked, but it is on my list.
I assume that is going to be the case though.
Thanks
Oh. I get it now. Sorry for the obtuse-ness.
I think I confused his TJ with JT Brubaker's TJ.
Didn't realize Borucki was eligible for free agency,
I've gotten that feeling here and there from some, but that he is
Interesting as always, Ethan. If Skenes wins Rookie of the Year, is it as simple as just adding a 1 to his 0.142 accrued time?
No, actually.

Can't wait till Rule 5 discussion!
"Who might Pirates protect?"
Answer: no one
Is there a bigger nothingburger that gets more ink than the R5 draft from us baseball nerds?

Ahhh, there will still be arguments lol
A couple guys in the AFL would have to completely dominate to get the arguments started lol.

Bidois was who I thinking of, and Sammy if he goes absolutely crazy out there. Even then it'll be less than 10% chance for either.
Which brought a question to my mind, but we'll leave that for the day Ethan drops his Rule 5 article.
You mean this one?

There she is.
?!?!?!

‘Welcome to another Bucs on Deck podcast episode, where today we are going to be talking about the Rule 5 draft…’
5 seconds later…
‘And that’s the end of the show, thanks for tuning in’
Easiest R5 I can ever remember.
