Zavala was the only one on the fast track to go, I think it's an underwhelming return but decent. I would have wanted one of Snelling or Lesko and one of Thorpe or Iriarte but Thorpe and Iriarte with Zavala and the reliever is ok.
I don't agree with every move the Padres make, but they're always interesting. If only we had a similar sense of urgency to play for the present instead of build for the future.
Less than 2 weeks before the start of the season in Miami, and we are still marching in place. Our OF has a few guys who played regularly last year, and we are auditioning folks for the last two slots. Our IF has a GG 3B, but he only played 124 games last year. Our SS (Cruz) played 9 games, and our 2 second Basemen (Peguero/Triolo) together played about 120 games. Our two 1B have a minimum amount of experience at that position with the Pirates, and of our three Catchers, only one had 68 games (Delay), another only 2 games (Davis), and the 3rd is injured and will probably start the season on the DL.
It's time to set the final 26 (at least the 13 position players) and start to play some serious baseball. As stated in the above paragraph, we are at a distinct disadvantage as a team and the sooner we start to get all the parts put together the better our chances will be to succeed once the season begins.
I have been on Celestino since very early in ST. He played solid defense in CF for the Twins in 2022 as a 23 year old. Of all of the CF's that played over 600 innings, he was 15th of 26 ahead of some very big names and was a +2 Defensive Runs Saved Center Fielder. He went to camp in 2023 and within a week he tore the UCL in his left thumb. That cost him the first half of the season and he then rehabbed at AAA St Paul the rest of the season.
In ST 2024 for the Pirates he has done everything necessary to prove his ability to be the RH Hitting complement to Jack Suwinski in CF. Olivares is an OF, but a corner OF only; and trotting the slow-footed Connor Joe out there is just idiotic.
This commentary on Jake Lamb ending with "although him being mainly a first baseman will likely keep him from making the roster." seems antithetical to the position for the Pirates the last few years, lol.
Same here man. That team with Preller is never dull. I have to think one of Lesko or Snelling is the return. A Dylan for Dylan?
Cease to San Diego! Yankees start sweating
It looks like it’s Zabala, Thorpe, Iriarte, and an MLB reliever.

I'm waiting to see what they gave up. Probably a rushed prospect or 2 lol.

Stratton and honeywell imo
Anyone have a list of the NRIs that made the opening day roster in the last couple years? IIRC, it doesn't happen too often -- maybe 1 per year?
I can probably go back after the game and kind of do some digging. But that is interesting to find out
Hoping Stratton and McKinney find their way onto the OD roster, but I’m not going to get all in my feelings if they don’t.
It would be a big lift if Ro-Day became a real positive in our season. And if Renegade isn't injured.

Fair enough lol. Then of course he's playing right field today lol
We call that being Sheltoned, lol.
