Pittsburgh Pirates to hire Matt Hague as hitting coach
Former Pirate was working with the Toronto Blue Jays
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ search for a new hitting coach has reached an end as Matt Hague appears to be getting the nod.
A ninth-round pick back in 2008 by the Pirates, Hague played in 33 games in the majors for Pittsburgh between 2012 and 2014. He also hit .295/.375/.442 with 15 home runs in 2010 with Double-A Altoona.
He turned to coaching in 2020, becoming the hitting coach for the then High-A Dunedin Blue Jays in the Toronto organization. He then moved up to Double-A New Hampshire in 2021 before landing in Triple-A Buffalo in 2023.
Hague, 39, spent this past season as the assistant hitting coach for the major league Blue Jays.
