If you're the Phillies, wouldn't you rather have Dominguez to close out a playoff game? And then I checked roster and they traded him for Austin Hays.....???? Hays seems to be a bench guy, defensive sub now.
Dominguez had a down year despite good stuff+ so they traded for estevez to fill the 9th and got hays to platoon with marsh in center as the RH option. Seemed like a pretty decent way to plug a hole while also strengthening the closer position. Estevez has been good and Dominguez stayed intermittently reliable so I would think they fell it played out ok
Hate the excessive off days in the playoffs. There would be fewer of them if the regular series were shorter and playoffs four of seven from division series onward.
Im pro taking a week off spring training to add a few inseason off days and/or mike the wild card round 5 games and the DS 7 games, but thats probably unlikely
I'd be curious if that's beneficial or not for starting pitchers. On the one hand, it's late in the year. I'm sure some dudes appreciate the rest. OTOH, most SPs like to stay on a consistent schedule, if possible. I don't think I've ever seen a good analytics take on that topic.
Crazy that the LA fans cant keep it together enough to avoid pausing the game
So far the playoffs are a reminder that relief pitchers are failed starters.

Yep.....nailed that one. I'm going to have to read up on why Dombrowski made that trade.

Good info. Strahm had only 3 saves in 2024 so he's not their usual 9th inning guy. I remember Dominguez being really good in previous playoffs.
The mets almost feel like theyve got the magic already
Only the Platters had The Magic Touch...
Phillies are waking up

That’s a good point. I think around march 20, players get antsy and ready for it to start.
