So for me the key to a good Thanksgiving meal is having enough tartness to cut all the richness. So I’m a huge cranberry fan, our sweet potatoes are in a casserole with a ton of lemon juice, and the green beans are in a salad also with lemon dressing. All that balances the turkey and the gravy and the stuffing. So I’m on team cranberry all the way. And, please, no Mac and cheese on Thanksgiving.
As for the four Pirates to host, I couldn’t begin to decide on four players, so I’m going with the managers: Murtaugh, Tanner, Leyland, and Hurdle. Should be a great conversation (with divergent views) about how to motivate players, the importance of tough love, managing in a multi-racial, multi-cultural environment, what to do when things go south, managing bullpens, etc.
There's a sandwich in every beer is how I look at it. Mac n cheese wasn't a thing to me until I moved dahn south. I'm a sauce and seasoning fella so it is a good vehicle for those.
4 Bucs
Clemente because he seemed to be a hypochondriac and I worked in PT for a long time so it would be fun to assess his ailments.
Leyland with 2 packs of unfiltered Winston.
Slyke because I adored him as a wee chap. Plus would want to see how his arm grades against Bobby.
Jermaine Allensworth. Due to the SNL skit and I bet Kendall would be a handful after the keg runs dry.
I got too tied up to contribute, but my choice for visitors would maybe be Honus Wagner, Fred Clarke, Tommy Leach and Deacon Philippe. I’d love to hear about a time when it was a totally different game. And, of course, when the Pirates were a powerhouse.
I might have to try this vinegar pie at some point. I only heard about milk pie last year, possibly around Thanksgiving, but I didn't try it because the reviews I got from family members were not great. When multiple people respond with "it's okay, but you should try...", then it's probably not that good.
As for my favorite sides, I’m personally a huge fan of cranberry sauce. The only other side that comes close is mashed potatoes. All other sides pale in comparison and are just bit players on my dinner plate.
As for dinner guests, give me Willie Stargell, Dave Parker, Cutch, and Barry Bonds. My favorite Pirates that I remember cheering for during my lifetime.
Yes, you need to have at least one dish with cranberries, one of the few fruits native to North America and I think the only native fruit the ripens at the right time for Thanksgiving!
I know both Jeff and I left off cranberries from our top ten, don't know about Ryan and Anthony. I hope I'm not giving industry secrets away, but Jeff said he would rate cranberry sauce a 0 on the 20-80 scouting scale. I don't eat it, but we have it every year. We also have butternut squash (mashed usually) every year and I rarely try it. It's okay though.
I was going to make this comment anyway, so this isn't an attack on Anthony's Thanksgiving...
I looked over a list of traditional Thanksgiving Day sides while making my list to make sure I wasn't leaving off anything. I'll note that I was looking at my list when I did the write-up, so the "everything down to the rolls" I mentioned includes turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, pumpkin pie and rolls, while the casseroles are cornbread and sweet potato.
Anyway, the one traditional item I saw listed was mac n cheese and I almost had a disgusted reaction. I love mac n cheese, don't get me wrong, it's probably a 70-grade side for me, with a few 80-grade versions over my lifetime, but we have never had it on Thanksgiving. It seemed like such a strange reaction to me, disgust over something I love, but I just can't picture it on Thanksgiving.
I do like the leftover turkey sandwich answer, but that's something that my grandfather made special for everyone. When he passed away, no one took up the torch. So it would have been top five for me years ago. Now I just repeat Thanksgiving on Friday and Saturday, albeit with smaller portions
I agree that a well done stuffing is 80 grade. Blows any other side away. I’ve had a couple of itinerations of mashed potatoes that could be considered 80 grade as well, but that’s so hard to do.
I have had Thanksgiving in the south before and they had numerous items that I never saw during my New Jersey holidays. My favorite among those is the cornbread casserole. Did not know that was a thing until the last ten years.
I agree, stuffing needs to go on the turkey sandwich
But naw I get it. Mac N Cheese is so common place that to an extent it’s out of place in a meal that’s done once a year. I do love the leftover sandwich tho.
We occasionally have mac n cheese at Easter, but it matters what the main part of the meal is. If it's ham, then mac n cheese has made an appearance. Sometimes we go Italian for the day.

Happy Thanksgiving
Happy thanksgiving everyone! Super thankful for the BoD Squad :)

Happy thanksgiving from Chuck town SC.

That's a good group. I'm sure you meant to put Dots Miller in there, but you knew he had other plans
Happy Thanksgiving y’all! Gobble Gobble! Need more rumors!!
Mashed potatoes 🥔 and corn with warm rolls!
Clemente, Stargell and Steve Blass with Teke to save the meal!!!
Happy Thanksgiving, 🦃🍽 🍗
1. Scrambled Turkey Eggs
2. Otter milk
3. Mononghahela brine pickles
4. Shaved north avenue ice (rip Gus)
5. Perogies (the pricy plum ones from the polish spot on smallman)
6. Chocolate mushrooms from oxford center
7. Apple cider from trax
8. Vinegar pie from pie for breakfast or whatever it’s called now
9. Pumpkin flavored beans from nicolas
Bmac what on earth is otter milk… unless you mean milk from otters
sweet beer
I don't know if this list is serious or not because I don't know what most of this stuff is BUT you did remind me to get apple cider!
I looked up vinegar pie to see if it is a real thing. I was surprised that it is, and some people actually recommend it.
everything I post here is real and serious
vinegar pie is the maximum amount of sugar one can possibly have in one bite of pie
I might have to try this vinegar pie at some point. I only heard about milk pie last year, possibly around Thanksgiving, but I didn't try it because the reviews I got from family members were not great. That solves it. All your sources have now become "real and serious" in my book.
Happy Thanksgiving to my BoD friends.

Hard to beat that four!

I’m definitely in the same boat as giving Cranberries a 0 on the 20-80
But I respect it as a necessity and always have some available for others
Cranberries are definitely the Barry Bonds of Thanksgiving sides…love it or hate it. No middle ground to be found.
I love that comp lol

A,regional thing I think. Southern states? My son moved to Texas. Brisket is what rules Thanksgiving (along with every other holiday/occasion).
Left over turkey sandwich either hot or cold. Must have stuffing on it no matter what 😁😁😁
