Oh trust me, I was thinking the same thing when he was talking about them. At least Mark Prior helped a little bit, but the other two certainly validate the gray I have coming in, haha. Also, I really appreciate the kind words!
Hell, you guys ain’t old yet. Than goodness he was not talking about, Gibson, Blue, Ryan( felt old when Walk brought him up to Skenes). Heck I bet you weren’t alive see where I-79 ended just south of Zelie BnP… lol I be old!
I moved to Cranberry Twp from Ambridge in third grade, soooooooo, '97 I believe? So probably pre-79 expansion, but before the C-Berry boom. Which still hasn't stopped.
I moved to Cranberry Twp in 1990 grew up in McCandleess till grade school the moved to the other side of southern Butler County. First thing in Cranberry was the upper part of the ra berry Mall. First job in the early 80’s was in Monaca so I drove 228 and down Freedom road. Seven Fields was just the first oldest townhouses and a bunch old graded dirt because the original developers ran out of money. 79 ran from Erie down to just south of Zelie and then it ended. Was that way for years until they built the Neville Island Bridge. Still remember going up Route 8 or 19 to Erie because 79 did not exist. Seemed to take forever to get there, like 3 hours going through all the little towns. 1 1/2 hours max from cranberry once 79 was built.
I haven't seen any video of him since he went down to Indy, but if you watch video of him over his time in development in the minors, going back several years, it seems that he begins his arm action later and later in his delivery toward to plate... kind of whipping the ball a bit more. This later arm action has coincided with a drop in his velocity. My suspicion is he is just syncing up his arm with the forward motion of his body and push off the rubber a little better and getting back to where he was before. Again... though... this is only a guess.. since I haven't seen any video of him in Indy recently.
As an aside, I had a similar thing with my deliver as a youngster, where, over time, my arm action got later and a little out of sync with my push off the rubber... (so maybe I am just projecting my problem onto him). I had a good coach though who noticed this and had me correct it. My velocity improved almost immediately... or at least it seemed to.
Super cool article, Ryan. That list of pitchers Quinn studied makes me feel old.

Any of you arm chair pitching coaches want to clue the rest of us in on why QP is throwing harder since going down to Indy?
I say Jobu came to see him ! He used the live chicken 😁
I think it’s because his arm is moving faster.
Right after I posted the question I said to myself, you really tee’d it up for some sarcastic remarks. Thanks for making me right, Arky.
Always glad to help my man!
