I am cautiously getting more encouraged about Lonnie White Jr. Is it possible he went from a little overrated when we drafted him to underrated right now?
I can only speak for me, but this is always been where I had LWJ. Think the injuries just caused so many to forget about him. But this was always the kind of impact he could potentially have.
I don’t think he’s quite that fast. Although I’m definitely not going to be like whatever nincompoop put a 20 speed on Suwinski. Jebb runs very well. It was a little puzzling they didn’t try him in CF a bit.
My vote goes to Willie Mays Hayes. Dude can flat out fly!
In all seriousness, I’m just happy Managers and the Nerds in the back offices have taken their leashes off the athletes and allowed one of the most entertaining parts of the game to return. Baseball is better when there’s a threat of a stolen base.
Agree on the stolen base being good for the game! Felt like early in the year we were aggressively taking advantage of this change and then became much more passive as the year goes on. Would like for next year to be more on the aggressive side. I dont know that we would have a 50 base stealer or anything, but a bunch of guys that should be between 10-20 i would think
Even in the postseason we are seeing some big advantages for the teams that are good on the bases. I dont think we are going to create a Phillies' level lineup anytime soon, but we could still be a solid offensive team by exploiting advantages like this
They won't recreate the Phillies lineup, namely due to the $ they've invested in it, but the Pirates can get creative. If a hitter gets a single and steals a base, there's still a runner on second like a double. Doesn't matter how they get there, just that they do. So I would love to see an increased emphasis on SB to try and level the field.
Agreed. I think it was on the talkin' baseball podcast that kinda jokingly, kinda not talked about an OPSS stat for ops plus steals and I dont think thats a super unfair thing to consider. A table setter could easily have 20 extra 'doubles' just by running well and thats a huge difference
Gives the pitcher and catcher something extra to worry about too! I know they are all professionals, but I dont think you can discount the impact that an extra thing or two to worry about can have on the battery
Think we should at least acknowledge Jesus Castillo. 30+ SB fast and had 101 BBs this year.
If and when Jebb makes MLB, he’ll be comfortably above 90th percentile in speed
If I was guessing I’d imagine he’d be in the mid to high 90th percentiles
Here’s a sleeper from the lower levels

Anthony - does Brannigan remind you of this guy?

I’ve hope for a while that Campana will turned into a prospect, I guess there’s still time, but I think ship has sailed.

No love for Jebb?
I debated Jebb. If I kept listing names he was probably one of the next few.

Lol. nincompoop!
I was being nice.
Bugs Bunny in the house!
What a maroon! What a nin-cow-poop!
"Eh, hey wait a minute, Mac. Just what kinda tracks was you followin'?"

Especially considering they aren’t exactly a replica of the Lumber Company. They need to be aggressive on the base paths.
I'm hoping for more of them to get on base next season. Then steal away.

Not to mention how disruptive that threat is to everyone in the infield.
