Think there is some swing and miss to his game that will probably keep him off the hit tool list, but has some pop think he can land on the power article eventually.
At FCL he had excellent BB/K numbers of 26 BB/35 K while hitting for a 918 OPS. Swing and miss caught up at A where he had 8 BB/ 37 K, but still posted an impressive 785 OPS that included 6 doubles, 3 triples, 6 HR in only 123 PA. I can handle a higher rate of swing and miss if the player gives it back with EBH, especially HR's/RBI's, and especially a player as young as he is. Played the whole year as a 19 year old.
Pirates signed Yohan Ramirez to a MiL deal a week and a half ago. He spent 2024 with four different teams and put up a 6.20 ERA, so the attraction is obvious.
Just to toss this out there, I had Nola and WTM send me their picks and then I kind of added on top of what they said. So, where Nola said Nick Cimillo, I added players on top of him. That way we can kind of touch on a few more added players.
Nick Yorke's stats look like a field of varying shades of Gold - Very Positive! With 344 PA's in AAA in 2024 almost equally split between Boston and Pittsburgh, he put up a combined .900+ OPS with 42 BB/65 K, 25 doubles/8 HR, 45 RBI. Those are very positive numbers as are his exit velo in the 90th percentile. His only flaw is the glove, but if we want him to be a possible starting 2B in ST I'd have him at Pirate City with some of our best fielding instructors about a week or 10 days a month during the off-season. Or maybe there's a fielding instructor out in Cali?
I am totally onboard with Buccoboy. Package Gonzalez with a young pitcher (Ashcroft, Harrington, Barco) and get a big bat in the lineup. Right now the mashers are Cruz and Reynolds. There should be NO room for the likes of Tellez, Joe, Taylor, Grandal again.
Agree on Tellez, Taylor, & Grandal. Joe was making $2.1 mil and returned $3.875 in fWAR, with a 94 wRC+. Plays multiple positions and seems to be a positive influence in the dugout and locker room.
Nick Gonzales has trade value based on his 1.3 fWAR (value of @$10 mil), and his 94 wRC+ in his first year of MLB Service. 2 more years of very reasonable salaries before hitting ARB. Braxton Ashcraft could be a valuable pitching prospect to the other 29 teams that do not have RHSP's like Skenes, Jones, Keller, Chandler, and Harrington at or near the MLB level. For my money, LHSP's Hunter Barco and Michael Kennedy are untouchable. Instead of Barco, I would throw Bailey Falter into the mix if the "get" was worthwhile.
I'd be perfectly comfortable in handing the 2b job to Yorke. IMHO Gonzales should be packaged with a good pitching prospect to get an established hitter. And we do have Johnson coming in a couple years.
Ballsy and risky as hell, but I’d target both of the ALC teams that are looking to shed salary-Minnesota and Chicago. Buxton? Robert? Pretty extreme boom/bust types though.
He has hitting talent, but he has not zipped through multiple levels yet. I would like to see him spend at least half of the year at AA and then, if things are going well, he will be in AAA at age 21. If NG is traded, I would like to see what we have in Nick Yorke - so far, he has looked very good, and he will only be 23 in 2025. He's a hitter - we just need to find more ways to get him to the plate.
Trying to stay in hopeful mode, I see TJ as still having highly variable potential outcomes for two reasons. He’s still very young, and he has one critical skill — strike zone judgment — at levels you seldom see, especially in the Pirates’ system.
The thing I was worried about when he hit the upper levels was that he'd see a lot more in the zone and the walks would plummet. Even in the AFL he's still drawing walks, so that's a good sign.
He does look frustrated sometimes when he walks, which I find funny sometimes.
The only at bat Termarr looked bad on Tuesday was his last. Even in that at bat, he looked like he was protecting the runner with the second strike and fooled by a change up on strike 3 (way ahead), looked mad at himself.
Surprised that Jhonny Severino was not mentioned. Young, but tore it up in the FCL, and continued into A.

I like this dude
a lot of hitting coaches scooped up and crickets so far for us
The Reds just added Clevelands hitting coach. They probably won't strikeout as much next year.
With Tito as the Reds Manager, it fits.
Yep

A 1B prospect?
No effing way! Not in this organization. Not now. Not ever!
1B is reserved for has beens and never were vets who can’t get a job anywhere else in MLB.

Or maybe either Diaz or Lowe from Tampa.
Matt Wallner please!!
👍
Call me crazy, but I’m hopeful TJ forces his way to Pittsburgh by next summer.
As such, I have no problem if anyone slated to play MI is dealt away this winter.

I doubt TJ does, but I’d love for that to happen.

When it comes to his AB's, the kid seems to be a perfectionist.
