Spring Training Gameday 29: Martin Perez makes last start of the Spring
Martin Perez on the hill for the Pirates against the Yankees
A late three-run home run by Edward Olivares helped propel the Pirates to a 4-1 win over the Boston Red Sox.
Jared Jones made his final case to make the Opening Day rotation, pitching five innings without giving up an earned run. He pitched 16.1 innings this Spring without allowing an earned run.
With two games left in the Spring schedule, the newly acquired lefties are projected to start. Martin Perez, who has had a fantastic Spring to date, will start against the Yankees.
Marco Gonzales, who has struggled, will start the finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Yankees will send Marcus Stroman to the mound on Sunday. The game is expected to start around 1:05 pm ET.

Sean Sullivan was a bit of a surprise when he was invited to big league camp. He had a solid 2023 season and showed a little bit of added velocity in Spring while throwing shorter outings. How best could the Pirates use the righty? I take a look here.
With less than a week until Opening Day, we are running a flash sale where you can get 30% off a yearly subscription. We did a season kick-off sale in February, but we will do one more before things start.
With 30%, that comes to less than $3 per month. Grab you a subscription while you can.
A premium subscription also gets you access to our Top 25 list, with full-player write-ups.
Your support has been amazing for everyone who has subscribed to this point, and I’m beyond thankful.
Martin Perez for Cy Young. You heard it here first.
Shelton says they’ll set the roster tomorrow. By my count, they have to cut a dozen players.
