Spring Training Gameday: Carson Fulmer gets the start on the road against the Yankees
Carson Fulmer vs Clarke Schmidt
A 15-run outburst by the offense fueled the Pirates to a win against the Baltimore Orioles at home Saturday. They now head on the road to face another AL East opponent, and the team they will face for their home opener—the New York Yankees.
On Saturday, they scored 15 runs behind big performances from Henry Davis (grand slam), Nick Cimillo (two-run double), Oneil Cruz (2-3, 2 RBI), and Jack Suwinski (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI).
Ke’Bryan Hayes returned to the lineup and went 0-1 with two walks and a run.
Carmen Mlodzinski tossed three innings and got his pitch count up to 64. David Bednar allowed a couple of runs but wasn’t helped out by his defense and Kyle Nicolas tossed two shutout innings.
The Pirates will send Carson Fulmer to the mound on a Sunday road game, with Clarke Schmidt the expected starter for the Yankees.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm ET.
