According to the P-G Shelton refused to name Bednar the closer in a pre-game interview today.

Huh. Santana? Or committee? Don’t have a big issue with that. (Assuming Bednar isn’t it.)

I think they’re really hoping for Nicolas to step up. Command isn’t there yet, though.

Letting Chapman go was beyond foolish. Bullpen by committee doesn't work when nobody on the committee can do the job.

How can Shelton possibly manage the bullpen if every reliever does not have an assigned inning or set of innings?

Maybe Lawrence be in that mix as well? I hope they don't name a closer and just let it play itself out.

I hope that they don't have one guy assigned the "closer" role this year or ever again. Instead I hope that they use their best relievers (Feguson, Santana) against the best hitters of the other team later in games. I hope they use Holderman as a fireman, no matter the inning if the game is reasonably close. They won't do this though because Shelton cannot plan these things out 3 weeks in advance and then tell everyone how they followed their plan rigidly and unthinking as if this is some point of pride.

If only Bae could lay one down like that.

Bae had a nice bunt yesterday. They hurried the throw and he wound up on second. It would be nice if he became a consistently good bunter.

Good audition against 3 MVPs in a row. And under pressure w runners on. Now Shelton is leaving him out there too long....

Shelton didn’t leave him in too long. This is ST, they’re not trying to win games as much as they want to look at players. Wentz was scheduled to go 2 innings, he started a bunch of games a couple years ago. Nothing wrong with them seeing how he fares pitching 2 innings.

True, didn't know he was a starter in past. Otherwise over 40 pitches is too much for a reliever.

Isn't this MoO Wentz, when on, he looks like a legit possible back end reliever then next appearance he morphs back to bad Wentz. Kind of his career in a nutshell. IMO that is why he is a difficult roster decision. In many ways a poor mans Chapman... one batter in and sometimes you can see how things may go on that particular day.

I'm a little tired of seeing pitch being called a sinker when it's above the zone. Pitchcom can do better on these telecasts. It's a FB.
